BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Can't acquire Gomez. It would upset team morale. Gomez/Pillar each want CF. Pillar would have to STFU and move over to LF and give us an insane upgrade in outfield defense. You don't just move a guy who has been one of the best (if not the best) CFs in the game to LF. LOL, Saunders isn't coming back maybe. Got any report on that you can share? http://fantasynews.cbssports.com/fantasybaseball/update/25230240/blue-jays-of-michael-saunders-still-not-close-to-returning ok..then let Pillar play every day in LF.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Any chance AA has something big in the works and is using this interest rumor as a misdirection to keep things quite until the deal is done.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Author Posted July 20, 2015 The defensive metrics sometimes lie, and needs 5 years to stabilize
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Kevin Kiermaier is a god With the most beautiful eyes in baseball <3333
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Author Posted July 20, 2015 Any chance AA has something big in the works and is using this interest rumor as a misdirection to keep things quite until the deal is done. Yeah. Maybe AA trade for the Indians whole rotation for prospects.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Not as beautiful as John Jaso's hair Truly disgusting and wrong.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Just looking at the top 30 pitchers on fangraphs by xfip there is only one who has had tj and he has regressed a lot.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Author Posted July 20, 2015 Not as beautiful as John Jaso's hair Are you maricon? Kiermaier is the handsome dude in the world. That eyes burns like the sun.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Fiers is very good. 3.1 fWAR and a 3.12 ERA in his last 178.2 major league innings (2014-2015). If the rumour is true, and it seems plausible, then I think you can count Toronto out for all of the big rentals. They are probably looking at more controllable players without big 2015 salaries. Non-Rental Targets Tyson Ross - $5.2M salary - controllable through 2017. Jesse Chavez - $2.2M salary - controllable through 2016. Andrew Cashner - $4M salary - controllable through 2016. Jon Niese - $7M salary - controllable through 2018 (two team options). The list isn't very long though. Hard to find guys that fit the bill. Shields and Hamels - controllable BUT expensive. Jose Quintana and Alex Wood - controllable BUT expensive in terms of prospects. Gallardo, Haren, Colon, Leake - Not controllable, particularly sexy, or cheap in terms of $$, but wouldn't cost a very good prospect.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Author Posted July 20, 2015 If he was a maricon, he'd realize how beautiful KK is. Like you and me?
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 We don't really know what the cost would be, and who could we realistically say that we can trade for that is better? It's nice to think that hypothetically every player is available for a fair package, but a lot of high value players simply aren't on the block. Seth Smith, Jay Bruce, Will Venable... A platoon OF is really all they need considering the heavy RH lineup. Have to remember Gomez will not be seeing nearly as many LHP in Toronto as he would somewhere else. And with Pillar in CF you don't really need a CF this season.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Like you and me? I didn't know you were, but upon reflection it's making a lot of sense.

There's more than one, deGrom and Cole have both had TJS in the past, Pineda and Brett Anderson have had significant injuries, including TJS for the latter. There are probably more that I'm missing.

That GB rate would be perfect for Toronto where the Turf takes away a few hits. Ross isn't an ace but he is close.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 A lot more than one of them have had TJS Jose Fernandez already looks like a Top 3 pitcher in baseball again, TJS works just fine for many pitchers.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 If we acquired Gomez, there's no way he'd be losing ABs to Valencia and Colabello. Pillar would. Gomez > Pillar > Portobello > Valencia. Portobello/Valencia/Smoak would be a DH platoon which isn't quite efficient roster management.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Jose Fernandez already looks like a Top 3 pitcher in baseball again, TJS works just fine for many pitchers. Let him pitch a full year not just 2 starts.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Jose Fernandez just came back from Tommy John throwing harder than ever, getting more whiffs than ever, more groundballs than ever, and has only walked 1 batter in 19 IP. Likewise, Matt Harvey's post-TJS stuff is completely intact.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 If we acquired Gomez, there's no way he'd be losing ABs to Valencia and Colabello. Pillar would. I know. He would be losing Abs vs LHP based on the fact he won't be seeing as many LHP in Toronto. Down the stretch teams aren't going to start the average Lefties vs Toronto like what Baltimore did.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Let him pitch a full year not just 2 starts. Why? It's plenty of sample to analyze his velocity and whiff %. The stuff is not only intact, it's improved.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Author Posted July 20, 2015 Let him pitch a full year not just 2 starts. Fernández is in another level. Best pitcher in baseball very soon.
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I'd like to know what it'd take for us to bring Yovani G if Texas falls out of the WC race...
