itsawrap Verified Member Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Our pythagorean W-L record is 43-26. Bittersweet because that shows how good our record should while in reality we're still clawing away in 3rd place. This has to be the last time Cecil gets the ball as a closer. Given up runs in 4 of his last 5 appearances and almost blew another one tonight. The AL East isn't a joke anymore and we can't waste more wins, especially against a division rival, on s***** pitching. If this is a closer by committee, let's ride the hot hand (Delabar) into first. How good would this team be if we just had some decent starters.
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Yet only 5 above .500....those 1 run games and wins we gave away really hurt. This team has to learn to pull out the close games.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Honestly it reflects manager's performance when the Pythagorean is substantially better than actual. Think about all the games this team has blown away, there were 4 in the first 20 games alone. I'd say a good 12-13 games have been blown by the pen.
LTR Verified Member Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 It's completely f***ed that we've scored 60+ MORE RUNS than the Rays / Yankees and we're behind them both.

I think the team is coming together nicely. Despite not gaining much in the division standings, they've made great strides as a team.

Caper Verified Member Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Keep beating the fur off the ball and they should be fine. Jesus there are a lot of guys that can hit on this team.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 if the jays didn't make mental mistakes in NY we would be on a 17 game streak. they should have won those 2 games but played incredibly stupid for 2 games. glad they got it back on track fast.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 trade for a SP, put Sanchez in the bullpen (he can't pitch enough innings to be a SP all season anyway)
fireballW Verified Member Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 It would be pretty frustrating to keep a run differential like this and not make the playoffs. Can't say AA didn't put together a good team. No team ever stays fully healthy but if we had Saunders in LF and Travis all year at 2b our offense would really be unstoppable. It already is actually.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 All this helps confirm and prove, Stats are for *******'s and that's why we still play the games!
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Hendriks for closer. He seems like the best choice, contract aside. Doesn't walk guys and throws a lot of strikes (maybe almost too many strikes at times). Gets groundballs which is huge at RC. He's almost like Jansen with better stuff. I think I'd much rather him than Delabar.

I can see Saunders in LF improving the defence but it would have been difficult for him to match Colabello's offence. The poorer record than expected, when based on run differential, has been due to poor pitching and errors on defence prior to the current 14 wins/2 losses streak. In June, both the defence and pitching has been much better than in April and May. Even Colobello's defence is improving in LF as he learns the position. I think the last thing the Blue Jays need right now is to start trading players for starting pitching and bullpen help. As the saying goes, "If it ain't broke don't fix it". I hope that the Blue Jays won't do anything to fix the Blue Jays team right now. I even wonder if getting Devon Travis back will improve the team. When Devon Travis went on the injury list, the team record was 17 wins and 21 losses (on May 16th - http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/standings/index.jsp#20150516), since then it has been 20 wins and 11 losses. I hope that when Devon Travis comes back he will be eased back into the lineup. Rushing him back into the lineup could be bad for the Blue Jays and Devon Travis. The last thing that the Blue Jays need is to damage Devon Travis' confidence such as what happened with Dalton Pompey.

nextyear Verified Member Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 This post literally sounds like it is from a robot. So are you saying it sounds too rational? It is easy to make critical comments to people on a website who you don't know. I think it would be more human-like to consider Blue Jays players and people posting on this website as people instead of objects. Maybe you need to learn what it means to be human.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Yeah the team has done better with Goins defensive contribution.
nextyear Verified Member Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Yeah the team has done better with Goins defensive contribution. He is one of the contributors to a better defence. Jose Reyes coming back has had a positive influence on the team with both his defence and offence, as has Bautista in RF. Donaldson, Martin and Pillar are also fun to watch on defence. I usually don't start following the Blue Jays closely until late May/early June so I can't really compare Goins' defence with Devon Travis. It would be great to see a player with Goins' defence and Travis' batting stats.

Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
