burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 With trade season coming up I thought it would be interesting to ask the question who would you rather keep out of Norris of Hoffman if both are valued around equally. The Poll will be for which player you want the Jays to keep.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Obviously Norris. Younger, relatively health, lefty with three above average pitches and made the majors already.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 If you had done this poll 4 weeks ago the results would be different.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 I never realised how old Hoffman is... Norris has the swing and miss stuff, but poor command/control, while it looks like Hoffman has good command/control, but not the swing and miss stuff.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Not even a debate.....HOFFMAN

Hoffman not blowing away hitters isn't unexpected (he didn't K a guy per inning until his junior year at EC) but if you asked people before his first start what his numbers will look like it probably would have been much higher than Junior year numbers.

He's facing little kids; he should be missing bats.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 He's facing little kids; he should be missing bats. he's also a month back from surgery. Don't get me wrong. I would have traded Hoffman while hurt just based on the Giolito effect, but I don't think we can judge anything but his Velocity right now.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 What are we talking about here ? Trading more kids? You guys didn't learn your lesson two nights ago? Want to give away more future ? AA failed in the off season to acquire depth. It's time for him to take his consequences. Any deal now is a bad deal unless for money

Fans will revolt if the Jays come up short after they trade a Matt Boyd for a lesser known entity and others in the AL East make big name deals. Jays have to make the playoffs or at least make the casual fans think they are trying. Norris and Hoffman are the two biggest assets they have not on the big club.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Norris which is no fault of Hoffman's I'm also #1 Norris fanboy so

This regime has not been successful

Which would be a "Rodriguez for Andy Milla" kind of deal for the Jays? Norris for Papelbon? Urena + Boyd for A.J. Ramos? Pentecost for Francisco Rodriguez? Reid-Foley for Jason Grilli?

Any deal now is a bad deal unless for money I fail to see how acquiring depth in the offseason is going to be any different than acquiring it now - unless you're talking about signing free agents. You wanted him to get more depth in the offseason, which would have required trading someone.....now you say any deal is a bad deal. yur dubm

So that the only resource expanded was money. Also given our young members of the rotation holding on the depth we already had would have been good (happ)
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 coin flip is probably the best way to decide this one

Also given our young members of the rotation holding on the depth we already had would have been good (happ) You realise: 1. Both parties have to be interested for a FA signing to occur. 2. The team has an internal budget. You have to have money available to sign FA's. 3. Signing good FA's costs us draft picks.
IronLadle Verified Member Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 I wouldn't be looking to trade either of these guys, but I'd probably stick Norris in the pen and see how he fares.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Never been a huge Norris fan. ban
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 My man loves my huge Norris. Fixed

Caper Verified Member Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 I remember Osuna coming back and having some really bad games. It takes time. I assume Hoffman will be fine.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 You move Norris because he is good not great and has immense value. This way you limit the risk of Hoffman finding his secondaries as he regains his form. Keep Matt Boyd as a backend lefty and bring him up soon so he can learn from Buehrle (as every lefty in the org should)
