burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Player A hits a game winning home run, his team wins 8-7. Player A's teammate, Player B, drove in the first six runs of the game. Somehow Player A's contribution was more "valuable" than Player B's just because it was high leverage and clutch? I don't think so. Never said that. Anyways that comparison is apples and oranges since to drive in 6 runs would require multiple PA. Im saying a player deserves more credit for hitting a homerun if it were to win his team the game in the Bot 9th with 2 outs off one of the best closers in the game compared to a player hitting a homerun off a position player pitching in the 9th inning of a 10-0 game. The degree of difficulty is massive between the 2 events and one is obviously a lot more valuable than the other.
Mac Outlaw Verified Member Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Because he should deserve more credit based on the fact that outcome determines the game. He will surely be facing a much better pitcher in that situation while in a blowout he could be facing some scrub from the minors. 1 of those hits is a lot more difficult and should be rewarded higher. Especially when we are talking about the Most VALUABLE player award. A player has more value if he is helping his team win more games. This isn't an award for most outstanding player. I think he was kind of saying that. My point is that a game winning home run is 1 run. What about the other 7 that came before? Are they less valuable? They didn't contribute to the outcome of the game? Talking about it coming off a better pitcher isn't necessarily the case. A run in the first off of a starter, for example. Starters are better pitchers generally speaking. That's why they start.

Realistically, when could Stro rejoin the Jays? Assuming all goes well in his rehab assignment of course. Will he be able to contribute this year?
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Yea the Cleveland series is the only series I can get decent seats for so really my last chance to see a game this year. yeah I was able to snag row 1 seats on the infield for just $70 a piece. I bought that during the Twins series so that was when the hype was still in full swing. It will be interesting to see the actual #'s come game day. Stephen Brooks later tweeted that right now the numbers are mid to high 20s.

ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Spent my honeymoon in Toronto with my girl a week ago. Never dreamed it would be such a blast. Had a super terrific happy time at Yankee's game. Drank a lot of beer and shagged in the bathroom. What a game. Awesome night. Sat beside Jaden Smith, thought he was Chris Archer (asked for his autograph thinking the former). Your girl is wearing a shirt with your face on it? Or that's Stephen Amell. I suspect you are not seriously suggesting that is a pic of you because even the URL to the image is from Amellynation, a Stephen Amell fan site. So I'm going to assume you are joking.

My guess is he was trolling for people to make comments on the appearances of the people in the photo and get in a big flame war. Good job forum for not biting!

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 On both this forum and another forum of which I am a member, I have been accused of being a troll, which greatly displeases me, since I very clearly and unambiguously oppose the practice of trolling. For those who are not familiar with the term, a "troll" is a person who deliberately posts messages on an online discussion forum that are intended to provoke or annoy other people, and "trolling" is the practice of doing so. I am an anti-troll; I dislike it when people post messages specifically to instigate arguments and anger others; I always ensure that I carefully deliberate every post that I make before making it, and I always make an effort to be polite and friendly, and to never intentionally cause arguments. Anyone who knows me well should know this, but I shall state it, anyway. I fail to see how anyone could believe that I am a troll, after reading my posts and knowing my personality, so please keep this message in mind before you accuse me of being a troll, again. Thank you very much. Where did I accuse? I asked the question.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 message boards are under meticulous scrutiny by power-hungry moderators who flaunt their elevated statuses as though they are children boasting plastic sheriff's badges from a doctor's office toy chest, arrant belligerency is typically not tolerated. As a result, message board trolls will employ various forms of passive-aggressive artillery and opaque comments that are geared to infuriate and deconstruct, resulting in scathing, documented games of hate tetherball that proceed for hours on end until the thread is obliterated and the trolls are forced to scurry off to another dank dominion of the board to construct a new pole. One of my most disdained troll adages is 'just sayin.' ‘just sayin' is by far the most vexing and inane phrase in the entire universe. Its mere existence is 100% futile, and it serves about as much purpose as an unprovoked punch in the face. ‘just sayin' is a helicopter ladder that evacuates the instigator from the malevolent chaos they created in the jungle of online decency. Tacking those two abhorrent little words to the end of any comment grants the perpetrator a "get out of jail free" card for the offending passage. "i think your new truck looks hideous in orange and you look like a tool driving it. Just sayin." more like, "just being an ass and getting away with it." imho (in my humble opinion) is also a wretched digital exchange that needs to be purged from the façade of online interaction. As if anyone is going to heed ostensibly "sage" advice from an individual who spends 23 hours per day fastened to a computer monitor with a never-ending supply of cheese balls at their disposal. That's at least how i envision message board addicts. In my humble opinion, i think people who type imho should spend less time in the land of make believe and more time being productive members of a tangible society. In my humble opinion, getting some sunlight would be an ideal start. At this point, we need to address the primary entree on the menu, and that's the fact that the internet enables individuals to type things they would customarily refrain from saying to someone in real life. The jaded philosophy that online attacks are acceptable since the receiving party cannot see or hear the offender is dangerous and malicious, particularly since there are no repercussions to follow an online cyber-bullying escapade. To trolls, the internet is a playground for malice and diabolical behavior, and sadly, it is the only environment that provides fulfillment for the sorry sods. The ecstasy of delighting in other's misfortunes, known as schadenfreude in german, is the only sense of value a troll feels in their sad, diminutive lives. I rarely find myself intertwined with the internet because of the rampant troll population. The message board i belong to is composed of a group of fellow motorcycle riders and is capped at 100 members, and even then my daily perusal on that site does not exceed 10 minutes. Facebook logins are designated to checking messages and wall posts, and time allotted to that social black hole is limited to 15 minutes per day. Today it seems as though every website is accompanied by a comment section, and nearly every comment thread is defiled by a relentless keyboard commando. tl;dr
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Goins up to 0.7 WAR in 92 games. Article isn't very good though. P/PA isn't useful. He's walking at a 9% rate this year which is a massive improvement for him. If he can keep that up there's definitely some hope for an 80-85 wRC+ bat which is enough with his glove to be a decentish regular. Projections still aren't favorable though.
