Because he'll be another year older and defense doesn't plateau. It gets worse the older you get.

If it is a blow out win and he just has to field for an inning or two, then maybe since he can throw and field.

 

It would be good to get him into a game for an inning or two. He could go in for Goins or Pennington and then be subbed by Darwin Barney in the field and a pinch hitter.

I'd like to see an outfield of Revere-Pillar-Saunders next year, with Pompey as the 4th guy. Bautista can get starts at both 1B and RF next year. We need to start transitioning him to 1B if we plan on re-signing him.

It was Shapiro's predecessor Paul Beeston's rule not to go beyond five years on free-agent deals, but the new regime understands it will take more than five to keep ace David Price, and it won't have such a rule. It does appear they will give it a shot -- though it won't be easy to beat the Dodgers, Cubs, possibly Red Sox (new president Dave Dombrowski acquired Price for Detroit) and others.

Totally agree that Pompey has a much higher ceiling, but I think management has soured on him. I see AA trading Pompey before he trades Pillar.

You trade Revere before you trade Pillar. Pillar may not age well as a lot of his value comes from his speed, on the bases and outfield for defensive coverage. You've got a few good years left in that tank before it starts to slow down. He should consistently provide more value than Revere heading forward.

Well they traded Arrieta for less so there is hope! Easily do that trade too. With MS coming on board I can see Sanchez getting dealt.
