The benefit of moving E5 and opening up the DH role isn't to free up 600 at bats for Colabello - it's to allow Jose, Tulo, Martin, etc. the opportunity to DH from time to time - hopefully to keep them fresh and healthy.

Also a good point

Bautista needs to find a new position soon and this team will need another quality outfielder

Really a must win game tonight. Adam Morgan is a super scrub and a lefty. Have to capitalize on that.

Yes yes yes

This isn't 1970. Players don't break down in their early 30's anymore. Edwin has plenty of productive years ahead of him. Hopefully in a Blue Jays uniform.

Just because a player is declining, doesn't mean they can't be productive. I never said the latter was happening.

Richard Griffin hosting his "jays chat":

"Quite frankly I don't understand WAR in general terms and I think that as you point out, you just have to see a player for a season and the contributions he makes, like Donaldson, to measure his value. I sometimes use the WAR numbers but I don't value them as highly as others."

It's no mystery this guy isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but to blatantly admit you don't understand one of the most important analytic tools in the game when it's your job to cover the sport is sad. There are certainly limitations and flaws with WAR, but it certainly has tremendous value.

What happens if they lose this must win game, is tmr a must must win?

You know your team is in a pennant race when every single game on the schedule there's a way to label it as "must win".

Piss pounding Morgan tonight is the only option!

I would like to see some more evidence before I believe that. All those players you listed outside of Utley who has had chronic injuries have massive holes in their swing. If players avoid serious injury and keep themselves in tremendous shape I fully believe they can play long careers. Edwin isn't exactly a good example of that because hes had chronic back injuries but he has stayed healthier as a DH and 3 or 4 more good seasons isn't out of the realm of possibility. Especially the way Edwin takes care of himself. Hes in better shape now than when he first came up.

We aren't going to be able to trade Edwin for a top of the rotation starter and trading him for a 3 or 4 would be dumb. So I would prefer if we played out his contract and maybe look at a 2 year extension after that. Hes showed us loyalty in the past. When the Jays cut him plenty of teams tried to sign him and he choose to come back despite being Demoted, DFa'd, and released by us. I would really like to see Edwin stay around for the next 3 years and feel hes extremely under appreciated.

Nobody is saying Edwin isn't a good hitter anymore. This all started because you cherry picked my sentence in which I said he's an aging, declining slugger (which he is). Saying he's under appreciated would be a stretch, as I think many people here understand exactly what he is- a good DH on a team friendly contract. There is great value to be had from Edwin the rest of this year and in 2016.

There is also a group of pitchers between "top of the rotation" and "3's & 4's". No, Edwin is not landing an ace by himself but not moving him for controllable pitching if the opportunity presents itself when you're most likely going to have to decide between him and Bautista after 2016 seems like a mistake.

1) Nobody is trading a good, controllable pitcher for 1 year of Edwin.

2) Edwin has 10 & 5 rights so I have no f***ing idea why people even discuss trading him. He's not going anywhere until he departs as a FA.

Legit points. Touche.

I do recall the serious sounding rumour that Tampa wanted Edwin for Price a couple years back. That would have made sense for Tampa at the time due to control and $/contracts. Totally different story now with 2 years older and less control. No idea if Edwin would approve a trade or not but he's seems pretty happy on this team.

unless we are getting a really nice asset back, I don't see how it helps us to trade Edwin. Just roll with him helping our team next year. Trade him at the deadline if for some reason we are out of it.

Just enjoy the asset in a win-now phase.

Martin hitting 5th.

Never believed I would say this, but I have more faith in Navarro right now.

Either DL the chum or put him as the back-up for 2 weeks in order to get him fixed. This team is going to regret it when Martin inevitably has to go on the DL in September.

If you are going to discuss the lineup have the courtesy of posting them

What are you talking about? Martin isn't hurt and he's obviously way better than Navarro.

I don't know about that, he's been hobbling around the base-paths lately, definitely playing through injury

For Mr. Accountant and all those interested:

1. Troy Tulowitzki ® SS

2. Josh Donaldson ® 3B

3. Jose Bautista ® RF

4. Edwin Encarnacion ® 1B

5. Russell Martin ® C

6. Kevin Pillar ® CF

7. Ben Revere (L) LF

8. Cliff Pennington (S) 2B

9. Mark Buehrle (L) P

Well if he's not being rested for today's game, they're not resting him at all.

I thought for sure they would have rested him today seeing as we're facing the lolphillies and Navarro + Buehrle have dat chemistry Gibby loves so much
