CrackerJack Verified Member Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I also agree with you. I just think its incredibly stupid that we're going to be buying. The clock will be set back a number of years again when they fall flat on their faces. Even if by some miracle they squeaked into the playoffs there is no way this team is winning a championship, it takes pitching and a more well rounded offense to win in the playoffs. This team either scores 10 runs when facing crummy pitching or 1 or 2 runs when facing good pitching. In the playoffs you face good pitching every game. I want to see this team torn down and built properly, without a bunch of stupid trades made 2-3 years too early like we did in 2012. I am very frustrated. VERY. Don't stress, bro, (after Buehrle wins the WC game) we're going with a 3-man rotation in the Division Series: Dickey, Hutch & Doubront.

Yeah, I feel your frustration, who doesn't, but if the Jays were to stand pat or sell, they'd have to come out of the gate in the 2nd half and play terribly, otherwise they'll be buying, AA publicly said so on Tim @ Sid...we'll see.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I don't think they should buy unless they can move EE to a true contender for cost controlled pitching
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 unless they can move EE to a true contender for cost controlled pitching Eddy likes it in toronto, doesn't want to leave and wants to resign
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Bautista and EE are 10/5 players, meaning they can't be traded without their consent. Why wouldn't they consent if they were going to a contender?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Eddy likes it in toronto, doesn't want to leave and wants to resign he may accept a trade to a 'true contender'.... Cards have Mark Reynolds playing 1B
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 he may accept a trade to a 'true contender'.... Cards have Mark Reynolds playing 1B I doubt it, I think feeling at home is something he values.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 he may accept a trade to a 'true contender'.... Cards have Mark Reynolds playing 1B Cards aren't taking that contract and his option. They've got $128.9M(estimated) committed for 2016, plus have no real need for him, plus they have Matt Adams returning next season. More likely they got after a cheaper option.. I can see them going after Napoli if the Red Sox fall out of it.

Half a season of EE will not be expensive.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 under any circumstances? would any of the big spending clubs take on the entire remainder of Reyes contract PLUS BAUTISTA for just a Travis Snider type of outfielder coming back? and would you do that as Jays GM if Rogers promised you that the team's budget on payroll subsequently wouldn't be going down? As frustrating as it's been we are still in this for real so nobody is going anywhere unless an arm comes back and that's fine with me. We aren't the only team with 1st half struggles still with a shot.

Even if he agrees to move unless he is part of a delectable return there is zero point to move his under market deal and bat. He is still a threat even if signs of decline are real.
LTR Verified Member Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Why is Colabello still being allowed to play LF? Is this organization run by complete imbeciles?
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Assuming Reyes will not be moving, I wonder if there is any consideration to moving him to 2B and just throwing Goins to SS full time. It would sting, but we could trade Travis+ for something that will help us now. Reyes would not be so inaccurate with his throws for 2B, presumably, and Goins would save 30 runs with his defence the rest of the way. Also, I call up Pompey to play LF, period. What's happening out there is indefensible. #playonwords
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Why is Colabello still being allowed to play LF? Is this organization run by complete imbeciles? Yeah, enough already. We have a great offence we don't know slow Joe out there in LF. Until Saunders is healthy, which may never happen, I would much prefer Pompey out there. We *may* take a hit on offence, but I honestly don't think it would be too much.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 The Jays are buying, there will not be a firesale, folks need to get this in their head, not happening. That's correct. Rogers will do just enough to give the appearance that they are in it to win it. But not enough to convince fans that really follow the Jays that they truly are.

How about benching Reyes in the 7th inning of every game we're leading for Goins instead? It's really not Reyes' throws that's the big problem, it's his limited range and no confident glove that's killing him out there. If Gibbons played things right with Smoak at first his throws in the dirt would get scooped more anyway.

It would also be terrible business practice to ship out one of the teams most valuable assets out because Ryan Goins is capable of playing SS. Reyes will be a Blue Jay for the duration of his contract. Maybe they try to get him in LF in 2016 but that will only happen under a new regime. AA doesn't have the balls to make him. He's his favorite player and is probably the entire reason the Marlins trade happened.
