guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) AA was on Baseball central. Pretty much saying that how Navvy has more value to them than anyone else, how hard it is to find a good backup catcher that can play if the main one went down and how much the staff loves throwing to him. Also stating that he has no control over playing time on a player. So.. AA was never serious about trading Navvy and Gibby does think Navarro is the purest hitter on the team. God dammit. Really? From everything we know about AA the only logical conclusion I can deduce from that interview is that we have no idea what's going on. Remember how last year Jack Z came out and said (abridged version) "I hate Michael Saunders, he always gets injured." Everyone in the Seattle media blasted him for diminishing his trade value and ruining any leverage Jack Z had. Of course AA is going to say Navarro is important, he's amazing, ad nauseam. It's not like he's going to say he's a mostly redundant catcher that needs to be traded, I mean we do want to trade him after all. Maybe AA loves Navarro, thinks he's a clutch hitter and all that but to suggest that the interview gave us any additional insight is kinda domb. AA is an expert at saying a lot of words without telling us anything of substance. Edited June 29, 2015 by guylaroche5
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 LOL. Please enlighten me on which s***** back-up catcher got extensive reps at DH over far better options on another team. Last five years, ten years, whatever. I know you're an idiot, so I will point out that using DH to periodically rest starting catchers is not the same. I wouldn't call Smoak a "far better option" but...Jorge Posada 2010 Yankees, Ryan Doumit 2013 Twins, Jesus Montero 2012 Mariners, Brayan Pena 2009 Royals, Miguel Olivo 2008 Royals, Jeff Clement 2008 Mariners, Mike Redmond 2007 Twins...going on is probably pointless. I await you pointing out that none of these are valid BECUZ GIBONZ IZ DA WORST!!!11!
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Smoak is the one who should be throwing a fit he signed a bargain contract to get reps and the chance to build his value - nope sit the bench and PH occasionally Yep. Smoak is getting the shaft. The sad part is he's actually hitting well enough to keep the starting job. Nepotism in full force.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 What did he say that makes him a moron? He's right, we could use an upgrade to the BP or rotation. He thinks Navarro has great value in the team. Navarro is s***
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 He thinks Navarro has great value in the team. Navarro is s*** I didn't see anything mentioned about Navarro in the article, I assume it's in the actual interview. Personally I don't really care what he says about Navarro, he's not going to put down his own player who he would potentially like to trade. Navarro has been just fine this past month. He's not as bad as most people on here make him out to be. Bad enough that no one will trade for him at 5 million though.

He was aiming for xxx player but only settle for Happ? I get what you are saying however and it is a good point. AA, wanting to or not wanting to trade Navvy, wouldn't be on the air bashing him. Would be a interesting case study if there was a report done on a GMs comment on a player and their returned value in a trade.

I await you pointing out that none of these are valid BECUZ GIBONZ IZ DA WORST!!!11! Smoak is having a better offensive season, has higher upside, better ratios (BB%, HR, etc), and provides more defensive value. I don't have the time to look at all your examples to see who was benched in favor of those guys but I'd be surprised if it was a better option benched in favor of a back-up catcher that couldn't hit in any of those examples. The only exception might be the Yankees since "respect" means playing a vet until he retires, but even then I'd be surprised. FYI, if Gibbons played Navarro 2 times a week like a normal back up catcher should, I wouldn't be complaining. No one else would either. Considering I'm not the only one who hates Navarro's playing time, maybe, just maybe, the criticism might be valid??
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 so if the White Sox are willing to blow everything up, how about David Robertson? Doing good so far in his contract http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=8241&position=P Maybe even Quintana
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 chyeaaaaa Ben Nicholson-Smith @bnicholsonsmith 48s49 seconds ago Josh Donaldson now the leading vote-getter at 3B in AL. More than a million ahead of Mike Moustakas. #BlueJays
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Goins playing LF tonight lmfao 9-19 against Buchholz. 2 hits game today.

I'm contesting your claim that NO OTHER MANAGER would do the same thing. Shockingly, I provide examples and you dismiss them without even looking into their validity. Typical. Criticising Gibbons for his annoying Navarro love affair is perfectly valid but he's hardly the only manager who would do such a thing.

Saunders has been wasted space so far, will we ever see this guy healthy this year? I mentioned before that even if he comes back this year, he is DONE as Michael Saunders. He will no longer resemble the player he was before. Having a chunk of your knee taken out is problematic.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Well atleast Melky is stinkin it up too. Melky is earning 60 millions by year. The Condor on 60-DL list give us more surplus value than Melky right now.

Seriously though, Quintana is signed long-term for next to nothing. He isn't going anywhere unless Kenny Williams has lost his mind.

LTR Verified Member Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Why the f*** is Goins playing LF? Uggh, f***. The only reason Goins should be in the line-up at all is for his stellar infield defense, there's literally NO OTHER REASON TO PUT HIM IN THE LINE-UP
