keggy Verified Member Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Correct, most of the time, but if a player says look I just want to play ball. Show me the best offer you've received and lets make a deal. If he refuses because he wants to make more money for himself, his client is potentially losing millions in lost wages because of his ignorance & greed. Is that not lawsuit worthy? Nobody is holding a gun to the player's head to have Boras as an agent.

pickoff22 Verified Member Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Who would you prefer...Soriano or Papplebon? Paps, that's easy. But that's without considering what he would cost vs. Soriano.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Give us one top of the rotation SP and one good lefty BP arm and this team is poised to make a playoff run. Our lineup is so f***ing good, even with an influx of injuries. Navarro, Valencia, Collabello are some great bats to have off the bench too. Those are three great bats off the bench. I'd love a solid SP starter, but we may get that yet in either Doubront (has great numbers in the minors and a lively 95 mph fastball) or Santana (who's poised to get some action really soon). I'm just not sure I want to sacrifice ANY youth for this year when we could have such a nice young staff for next year. Tough call.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Trade Navarro, Pompey & Dickey for Hamels & Paplebon.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Trade Navarro, Pompey & Dickey for Hamels & Paplebon. Why would the Phillies even consider that?

pickoff22 Verified Member Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 The Cubs have signed veteran reliever Rafael Soriano to a minor league deal, adding another option to the team’s late-inning mix. He’ll earn the pro-rated portion of a $4.1MM base salary and can add up to $4MM in incentives (based upon games finished and appearances).
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Man that's a lot of money. I would have signed him for $4 million pro-rated. But that extra $4 million in incentives would hurt. I wonder if the Cubs are shaping up to probably deal him at the deadline too? Low risk, good reward, and the money is not an issue for them.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 So cubs signed him for $2.6M and he can earn another 4 through incentives ( if he pitches well ). So the amount really at risk is only 2.6 M
LTR Verified Member Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 He's prob going to be bad anyway, too much time-off...... a la Roy Oswalt

So the amount really at risk is only 2.6 M If there was a very low chance of him meeting those incentives he wouldn't have signed in. So I expect the incentives can be achieved reasonably unless he was utter s*** and/or injured.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 If there was a very low chance of him meeting those incentives he wouldn't have signed in. Not necessarily. His ego could have played a big part in the negotiation. This is a guy who just fired his agent. Presumably the new guy is merely just following marching orders and might very well negotiate incentive that the player will never reach.
