Getting two for next year just replaces the two we have buehrle retires and dickey and his trained monkey need to be shown the door as well!!!

dickey could be a serviceable #5

But it rains when he pitches.

I'd say things get rather.. HEATED on here when he gets on the mound.

god dammit

I agree with N049 on that. Next year you are looking at a rotation mixed up of:

Stroman

Hutch

Norris

Hoffman

Osuna

Sanchez (he'll get another change... weather we like it or not..)

I want these guys to succeed as much as the next Jays fan but you need to have better depth to protect/develop the pitchers. Dickey and Burly are more than likely gone freeing about $30M in cap. You could find a decent pitcher or two with that for depth in the market this offseason. Obviously not a Price or Cueto but a Gallardo, Chen or see if Martin can convince Brunette to come here.

I think you will most probably need to replace Buehrle via free agency or trade. Assuming Dickey stays, and one of the other guys(most likely Norris) proves he is ready, that should be enough. Obviously too early to tell, but it is quite likely if you ask me.

Taking the tinted blue glasses off, this team will have to add two starters next year.

Stroman

SP 1

Hutch

SP 2

Norris/Osuna/Boyd/Castro/Hoffman

Sanchez to the pen.

Stroman may be a legitimate top of the rotation pitcher, but after that the in-house options are pretty bare. I think realistically Hutch is a decent 3/4 in a good rotation. Having a surplus of young guys who could become serviceable starters is nice, but handing them rotation spots and ignoring depth (again) will have the Jays in the same position next year.

Liam Hendriks, or maybe give Scott Copeland a try. We have 5 s***** starting pitchers right now in our rotation.

Subtracting Buehrle Dickey Thole and Romero gives us 39-40 mill alone to spend on two pitchers! Add in the money the forgot to spend this year and a payroll increase and bam we should have 45-50 mill easy!

If they pass the hat maybe more! Lol

Heck I would throw in 100 or more myself!

RA has provided great value over his contract. He has been around a 2 WAR pitcher, can eat up 200IP and has some added benefits like his defense on the mound and "Dickey effect". He wasn't and never will be worth what was given up for him however that is on AA, not Dickey.

With all that being said, I doubt he comes back next year. 40+ year old knuckleballer whom already has worrisome stats this year (no strikeouts in 3 games, higher walks, etc) and while it may normalize over the season its not really encouraging heading into the future. Plus I want to be over and done with on the catching situation. I want there to be no excuses on why Martin can't "catch" a certain pitcher. Thole has cause issues with roster management in building a good bench and is not a MLB player.

The $14M + w/e given to Thole can be reinvested better.

Good post, very few people see the value R.A has had on this team, blinded by the trade and what folk expected, it isn't his fault that AA chucked a s*** ton of value out the window.
