Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 Scott Richmond won AL rookie of the month before hahaha
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 if he keeps up this torrid pace he's a f***ing lock for ROTY
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 If he keeps up this pace he's pretty much a lock for MVP. Not if the Jays don't make the playoffs cuz reasons.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 He's been unbelievable thus far. 7 homers when his minor league high was I think 16? I'm sure pitchers will adjust and he'll have his struggles like all hitters do, but damn if he keeps it up ROY sure isn't out of the question nor at least Jays MVP. He's been a hell of a surprise.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Seeing that Hinske was a rookie in '02 makes me feel old.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Man I had high hopes Hinske and a Wells Delgado Hinske middle order
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Congrats to him He's been awesome (not sustainable at this pace obviously but he's proven to be MLB worthy)
flafson Verified Member Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Congrats to him He's been awesome (not sustainable at this pace obviously but he's proven to be MLB worthy) Well, he's hitting over .400 when hitting #2, so far at leadoff he's been around .200 hitter. Chances are, we need Reyes in front and the big guys at the back of him to be effective. Unless of course he makes adjustments and stay lock at leadoff.
bendera3 Verified Member Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I've been impressed with Travis not just with the bat but in the field too. He seems to have pretty good range at 2nd.

Yep, he's been good all around. Any one of us would have been thrilled to have even a 2+ WAR 2B this year. And it looks like we probably do.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Travis has already put up 1.2 fWAR Nice (why is his defensive value -0.1?? I'd expect that to improve and his offensive value gains slow down probably?)
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I'm not hardcore nerds like y'all, so dig through all those stats and abbreviations that I don't understand: http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=13862&position=2B#fielding
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 He has been incredible. Hope he keeps it up, looks poised at the plate.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Anyone know who was his closest competition?
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Well, he's hitting over .400 when hitting #2, so far at leadoff he's been around .200 hitter. Chances are, we need Reyes in front and the big guys at the back of him to be effective. Unless of course he makes adjustments and stay lock at leadoff. This is the dumbest thing ever... this is just ridiculous you are not the first to make this type of argument, but it IS the dumbest argument of all time. In comparison "Goins is going to have 4 WAR" would be an amazing argument. There exists a pitching strategy that makes Travis a .400 hitter. There exists another pitching strategy that makes Travis a .200 hitter. If those statements are both true pitchers will always use the strategy that makes Travis a .200 hitter. It does not make a godamn difference where you hit. Pitchers will always use the strategy that is most effective against Travis. Pitcher -- oh dear Bautista is on deck. I will give Fastballs to Travis. This will make him a .400 hitter. But that is OK. I just do not want Travis to become a baserunner for Bautista... Guess what, if Travis hits .400 he is going to become a baserunner for Bautista anyway. By far, bar none the stupidest argument that ever appears on this board.

Travis hitting lead off -- Pitcher - I assume that this Travis is hitting lead off and some runty 2 hitter is behind him. I have discovered Travis' weakness. It is the curveball outside and a bit low. This is a good pitch to give Travis because he does not recognize it and may strike out. Travis will only hit .200 against me if I use this intelligent pitching strategy. a couple of weeks later... healthy Reyes of the DL Reyes (healthy) - Hard double to the corner Travis comes up Pitcher - Oh dear, Reyes on second allready. And the mighty 3rd and 4th hitters are on deck, strong lads I presume. It is unfortunate but I can longer throw Travis the curve. I must give him the fastball down the middle. This will make him a .400 hitter but I must do it... It is the only choice.
flafson Verified Member Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 As i said, he needs to adjust to those low breaking balls. On a positive note, he seems much better with those low breaking balls than other youngsters like Pillar.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 This is a sign of good things to come. Two previous April ROTM winners were Richmond and Gustavo Chacin.
