Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 What's so hard about understanding that? Some of the posters on here don't understand basic baseball fundamentals and they look stupid when making comments. It was clearly done for a reason, didn't work out. s*** happens.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Gibbons did nothing wrong last night, guys didn't execute, period.
Governator Community Moderator Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 It's been said enough times but blaming Gibbons is just not right here. Most managers would have ran the 8th inning the exact same as Gibbons, he can't control the outcome after doing the right calls. Also, stop kidding yourself - Castro just about lost the hold with his first pitch to Arod, a fast ball down the pipe that thankfully the wind kept it in the park.

I sat there and even said out loud "well f***, that's a home run" of course the ball only makes it to the short stop though.
flafson Verified Member Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I hate to say it but 3 long relievers is a bad idea, we need someone like Papelbon.

I actually blame Martin on that one. Why would you throw a first pitch fastball to A-Rod? He's obviously going to cheat to the fastball. Should've started with the slider.

Given that Castro was coming in for Dickey, it made sense to start with the fastball and force the hitter to adjust to the dramatic increase in velocity. I don't hate the call. Let's just give ARod credit. He looks to have more left in the tank than a lot of people (including me) expected.

As long as he's not in the field I think he'll stay healthy enough to do damage with the bat.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Guys. I think we're all blaming the wrong people here. We clearly lost because fatcoww made the GDT.

Fatcow's a beeyotch!

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Gibbons did an excellent job bringing in his best reliever in the 8th inning in a high leverage spot. Thank you!!!!!
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Last night brought back all the former losses at Yankee stadium I remember a similar lose when accardo and jansenn couldn't hold a lead there a few years back maybe more than a few years
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Gibbons did an excellent job bringing in his best reliever in the 8th inning in a high leverage spot. Castro to the shower after only 6 pitches because the 8th inning man Loup was ready to action. Osuna and Castro earning a high leverage spot in the bullpen.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Gibbons did an excellent job bringing in his best reliever in the 8th inning in a high leverage spot. Yeah. I was actually pretty shocked that he brought Cecil in with 0 outs in the 8th, but it was an excellent move. Unfortunately, it did not work out

ScientificReason Verified Member Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I cannot believe people are blaming gibby here...Loup went full derp, that's all there is too it. The bullpen was a big ? coming into the season and last night did not help matters. Not a good loss but what do you do? Lets hope this is a rarity as these types of losses hurt. Should have been a W against a division opponent. PS: When will gibbons start using others besides loup in high leverage situations?
Brenner Verified Member Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 To be honest I am pleasantly surprised that Gibby is clearing throwing Castro and Osuna into the deep end and using them for high leverage situations. This type of usage actually justifies having them with the team. Managing the bullpen is a bit like poker, sometimes you make the right decision and still take a bad beat on the river. Can't always judge by the result.

However, we don't have an embarrassment of riches in this pen so Gibby went with his vets in high leverage situation. Loup, despite occasional meltdown has been effective for us. Didn't work out....lets get them today.
jays76 Verified Member Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Yesterday was such a painful kick in the bag! I don't blame Gibby either, our two most reliable relief arms s*** the bed. Obviously you can't blame Cecil as much since he was being dumped into the fire but he clearly wasn't on last night. I mean s*** happens but hopefully we don't have too many more bullpen implosions like that. Too much of that this season and it'll come back to haunt us later if we're in the playoff race. Also poor Dickey..
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I understand some fat cow usually starts the GDT's. When does that usually get rolling? He's probably already created the thread and is waiting for the lineups.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 IBB to put the DP or force at home in play, yes you do that 10/10 Bring in Cecil in 8th, 0 outs, bases loaded, up by 1, yes the right move Replace Castro with Loup to start the 8th. Wrong move by Gibby. Castro was finding the zone and did not seem bothered by the weather. The advantage of Loup against lefties is outweighed by the risk he doesn't have his stuff, when you know Castro does. IMO.

I agree with you, gibby over thinking too much, but still cannot blame him, 2 run lead Loup just never produced at all, it is ultimately up to the players to deliver, Loup's job is to get lefties out and be in tight situations in games, he failed.
