ScientificReason Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 8 lefties facing Hutch, benched him in two leagues. In Yankee stadium....uh oh.
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Navarro's been a different hitter the last couple years. He has done fairly well against righties the last couple years and strikes out less than league average. Smoak is a power guy that strikes out more than league average. Tanaka isn't a fastball pitcher. Pineda is more of a fastball pitcher. You want to get all your guys involved early on. I don't understand why it's so wrong to have Navarro in game one against Tanaka, Smoak lining up against Pineda and Valencia in against CC in game 3. Tanaka is a tough pitcher and having guys who make contact isn't the egregious error in judgement you are making it out today. Going with Smoak or Navarro would have been fine imo. Let's go Blue Jays! You make good points, but I think gibbons is a terrible manager so I was venting.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I'm pumped. Jays are almost back. I LOVE YOU GUYS. OK, back to work.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 They didn't trade for Smoak dumn dumn. Traded a piece of their soul
ColdPint Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Sounds like I'm listening to an episode of COPS. Just because someone played ball doesn't mean they have any meaningfull or intelligent analysis to add. Which is, you know, something you think you'd have to do to get a job like that.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Traded a piece of their soul Oh yeah, I guess in that sense you're right as always
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I'm not blaming Gibbons for Navarro. It was AA's job to resolve this mess.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I'm not blaming Gibbons for Navarro. It was AA's job to resolve this mess. Pretty obvious that nobody wanted to trade for Navarro. Would you have just cut him loose? Maybe that's the right decision but it's a pretty tough one to make. Bad precedent for future free agents.
baubau Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 They are willing to butcher a game just to "thank" someone they already paid services for? He wasn't even that good. Damn how do I sign up for a career with the Jays? OMG Barker back on baseball central. I've lost a few brain cells already. "I think Wainwright is an ace. I think Yadier Molina is good." God, Barker is something else...... I don't know how anyone can listen to this guy. I cannot stand his accent/the way he talks. I don't know how you guys are able to lol. Its amazing how someone could be in baseball for so long and know so little, but the idiots that call in love him so I guess he speaks their language. I miss Hayhurst.

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Oh yeah, I guess in that sense you're right as always ps congrats on making a nice trade yesterday and undoing the wrong that you did to yourself by trading for Hyun-Jin

I think with all the "rumors" and even representatives from the Diamondbacks following him around in spring training tells me there was interest/desire for Navarro. AA is just overplaying his hand. Even cash consideration or PTBNL is more than enough for Navarro at this point.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 [it would] be hard to tell Rogers that they are cutting a player that we owe 5mil for. If you can't make that argument then you shouldn't be the GM of a baseball team, lol.
LTR Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I change my mind about Navarro over Smoak... it's about the same, it could go either way. Vs. righties, last 3 years: Navarro 101 wRC+ Smoak 102 wRC+ Doesn't seem worthwhile bitching about it anyway.

I don't see why a catcher with one year of control would interest them, unless it was just a salary dump swap (Cahill for Navarro) which might have been discussed.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I'm not blaming Gibbons for Navarro. It was AA's job to resolve this mess. What mess? Navarro is the backup catcher. Are we expecting AA to re-create the scene from Moneyball here he trades Pena for anything he can get b/c the manager is too dumn to use his players correctly?

Hahaha, did anyone catch Barker's "3 Strikes" segment? Unintentionally hilarious. "Score more runs!! Win more games!!" And it's reoccuring segment apparently so there'll be lots of material to joke about over the year.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 WTF is this lineup? Navarro DHing??

Well the fact that Stewart said the contract was too much for them all but eliminated them.

Tigers also had interest apparently, though not as vocal as D-Backs. Either way, all we can do now is hope someone is dumb enough to trade for him or AA/Gibby is smart enough to sit him.
flafson Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Well the fact that Stewart said the contract was too much for them all but eliminated them. Only if you believe him. Navarro suppose to be good with young pitchers so there is that.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Holla from England! Let's go Blue Jays!
theblujay Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Stop worrying about Navarro, who cares. Its opening day, Lets go Jays!
baubau Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Well the fact that Stewart said the contract was too much for them all but eliminated them. He got rid of Cahill which freed up $12M so he should have room now. Besides after vocally stating he was interested in Navarro early in the offseason I am sure he had to pull some excuse as to the reason why nothing was done. I am not saying the D-bags were the only team interested but saying there was certainly a possibility of Navarro being moved there had AA really wanted him gone. I don't think AA did and that is the problem itself really.
ScientificReason Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Stop worrying about Navarro, who cares. Its opening day, Lets go Jays! This is a discussion board bro lol.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Only if you believe him. Navarro suppose to be good with young pitchers so there is that. I do because with our without Navarro they are going to be a bottom 3 team in the NL... Why sink 5mil into someone who likely won't do much for you.
theblujay Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 This is a discussion board bro lol. This crew would find something to whine about no matter what. Although lots of times all the pre game bitching about the lineup usually ends up with the player having a good game lol
Nox Verified Member Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 It's going to be a long year, folks. Opposed to looking for defensive prowess from your DH?
