It's tough to watch Boston and the Dodgers (who can't find room for all their quality second basemen) while we have 3 sub .600 OPS guys we're debating between.

To make matters worse, the Dodgers are the lead bet to snag Olivera.

If we're too cheap for Olivera, you would think that the Blue Jay brain trust would be talking to LAD, about at least getting Alex Guerrero or Justin Turner.

I somewhat disagree as I am a little high on Travis but what do you see as assets the Jays can give up and what do you think are assets the other teams would want?

Alex Guerrero is actually a perfect fit for this team. Can play 2B, SS, COF. All areas we need depth in.

He sure is. Snag him and Van Slyke (who would be an above average 1st baseman by the looks of it, and could back up all 3 outfield spots as well)

And who do you trade back? Can't fix one whole without making another.

They'd probably be looking for higher end lower minors guys anyway, since they are ridiculously stacked at the big league level right now. Likely wouldn't create a hole.

So Hoffman and/or Pentecost. I'm not convinced the Dodgers won't try to pry someone off an MLB roster though.

I've been on the Guerrero bandwagon since the off-season. Dude can hit. Play him in LF, 1B, 2B, wherever. Just get his bat in the lineup and he'll produce.

Unfortunately he makes more than the minimum, so he's probably not an option for this team.

I thought Guerrero was a hack defensively? I certainly don't think he can play any SS. I too think he'd be a great fit for this team (given our options) - although his contract situation is likely what is holding up a trade. I think he has an "out" clause after this year, so if he's traded to the Jays and does well...he'll likely bolt as a FA and the Jays will have given up something for a 1 year rental. If he sucks, then the Jays would be stuck with him at something like $5M for the next 3 years...

I think (FWIW) Turner and Van Slyke would be exposed if forced into fulltime roles.........I think they are great bench guys.

Alex Guerrero is going to make the Dodgers anyway because he will refuse a minors assignment due to a weird contract, plus there are questions whether he'll hit in MLB.

I'm not so sure Van Slyke would be exposed. His numbers vs R/L in the minors were pretty much identical, and they aren't significantly different in the majors. I kind of feel like he just needs to be given a chance to play. Guerrero doesn't have a great defensive reputation and he does have an out clause, but he also wants to play. I kind of feel like he'd probably waive that as part of the trade if he was told he'd have a starting role wherever he went. Based on the money left on his contract, I don't think he's require a big return either.

Remember that Friedman/Zaidi are running things now. van Slyke won't come cheap. Guerrero might not be expensive tho

Only thing about Guerrero is that he has what might be Boras' best contract ever. He can refuse any minor league assignment now (which contributes to the Dodgers roster pinch) but also if he's traded he can declare free agency at the end of the season. Not that if he's successful 1 year $4-5M would be a bad thing.
