strewth78 Verified Member Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Hello. I'm travelling across the pond in June to watch 4 games in Toronto. 1 against the Mets and 3 against the Orioles. .. can't wait. I'm going alone this year and so I wanted to listen to radio commentary of the game via headphones. After a fair bit of surfing the Web on the topic I thought perhaps it's be best to go right to the source and ask fellow blue Jay fans on the best way do this. Of course, I have MLB At bat, But that would most likely cost an arm or a leg as my data allowance is limited to my home country. Plus I've read that often enough the feed is perhaps on a delay which would just be next to useless. So I thought about just purchasing a little radio and picking up the feed that way. But is it possible to pickup radio broadcasts still? Or has the powers that be limited free radio channels from broadcasting them. If they are available, which stations? And would I need a certain type of radio to pick them up? Or perhaps there are those out there that have alternative ideas. Much appreciated!!
LTR Verified Member Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 The Fan 590 broadcasts all games on the radio, and there are some sister stations that do outside out of GTA I think (not sure which)
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 My gf's dad uses a small cheap am radio to listen at the games. I don't think he's ever had a problem with it. Fan 590 will have them.

I have heard nothing that suggests that they block signals inside the dome, though I haven't personally tried to do it in... a very, very long time.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 If you listen to the radio while in the stadium, how far back is the delay between the action happening and the radio broadcast?
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 You see lots of older people with headphones on, listening to the game. I'm sure it lines up fine. This will be me in ~40 years, when Vlad Jr. is on the level of excellence at Rogers SkyDome 3.0 Heart and Hustle edition brought to you by Uber theme song courtesy of Carly Rae Beiber.

strewth78 Verified Member Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 ~5 or so Surprised it's as much as 5 secs. Can appreciate it being that far behind through streaming, but live radio too? Huh. Thanks guys for the responses. Will check out AM590. I'm assuming any basic radio device would pick that up. What's the broadcast like? Any good?

Basically, Jerry Howarth is known for swearing up a storm, so they have him on a delay for that reason...

The broadcast is awesome but it was a nightmare a couple years back when they had Jack Morris (hate that guy)
43211234 Verified Member Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 There is no delay at all if you're using an AM radio. My dad always listens to the radio and I do too the odd time. Maybe there will be a delay is you use At Bat. You can get a cheap little radio for $20 or less many places.

They might even still have one at the Jays shop. I used to listen at the game all the time, delay isn't noticeable. There is no jammer in the dome that prevents you from listening. Atleast, there wasn't 5+ years ago. Haven't listened while in attendance since the turn of the decade. Enjoy
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Tune into the TV broadcast, it's way more enjoyable.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Does Grant still post here? If you had a question about watching games on the radio he was the guy to ask.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Heads-up if you're using an app line Tunein or Rogers radio app too, those streams don't air live game audio. It might be obvious, but just wanted to throw that out there.
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 as far as the quality of the broadcast goes, I think it's excellent. I listened to all the games on the radio last year and I loved it. Howarth and Siddall make a great team, they are both quality broadcasters. I like Siddall's insights into the game as well. I would tune out though when Wilner takes over for an inning or 2, can't stand him. But yeah Jack Morris was the worst. So glad he was only on for the one season. I like when they have Duane Ward on though. I like listening to him and Jerry hang out.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 A second tops...GD's dumn. No way. I've listened with my dad many times before, there's at least a few seconds of delay in there Spank.
