HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I can't get excited about this team without E5 and Saunders in the line-up. We're less than a month away to the start of the season.

King Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Pretty much seems set in stone that he'll be on the team in April. Maybe they are looking at him for a rotation spot, that would explain why they are stretching him out..

Gibbons also said Sanchez has Stroman's spot and Norris and Estrada are battling it out for 5th starter so no they are not looking at him for a rotation spot. He's replacing Sanchez as the starting prospect used in the bullpen.
King Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Lets just call up every prospect to fill our holes, seems like a genius idea C - Martin/Jimenez 1B - Tellez 2B - Travis/DSJ SS - Reyes 3B - Donaldson RF - Bautista CF - Pompey LF - DSJ DH - EE SP - Buehrle/Hutch/Dickey SP - Norris SP - Castro RP - Sanchez RP - Cordero RP - Osuna RP - Perdomo (LHP) RP - Meza RP - SRF RP - Smoral (LHP)

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 What it be in the best interest of Castro's career to have a minor injury that keeps him off the roster lol. With that being said glad Sanchez is getting his chance to start. If he struggles you can always out him back in the pen. unless he goes Daniel Bard on everyone.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Aggressive early decision making by Gibbons I doubt it's exclusively his decision.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I doubt it's exclusively his decision. Prob true. And the Stroman injury has obviously forced their hand. If they view Sanchez as a starter then right now they should be treating him as one and they are. Whether it works out we'll have to wait and see of course... Here's hoping Santana declares himself as useful by late April. That would sure help. But I'm not holding my breath. When/where will he be pitching anyway????

They could piggy back Sanchez and Castro to start the year. they get 3 innings each and take every other start. it keeps their innings down and has them both stretched out to take a bigger starting roll if there is another injury. It would be unconventional but not a horrible way to do things. Jays do this in the minor teams to keep all the young starters getting innings.

Similar yet different to what I posted in another thread, piggyback !Castro can just piggy back and finish what Dickey and Buehrle started and should get 81 innings min. To 154 innings max out of the pen! Dickey effect then heat, Buehrle's Slow rollers then heat should make Castro even more devastating one would think! plus the pen would get most those days off as well to rest!
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 unless he goes Daniel Bard on everyone. Daniel Bard was unplayable as a starter early in his career though, he walked the whole ballpark. Converting him to relief saved his career and the real mistake Boston made was trying to go back. It's a shame, really.
Governator Community Moderator Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 So where is Redmond fitting in the BP? Is he still a long arm option? He put up a 3.56 FIP last year as mostly an inning eater.

He also put up a 4.47 xFIP though, given his extreme fly ball tendencies and mediocre strikeout and walk abilities. I don't expect much but he'll probably fit into a middle/long relief role.

With the rotation already down a man and likely leaning on Sanchez and Norris from game 1, having Redmond around could be useful.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Kind of interesting: Steamer thinks Todd Redmond and Rafael Soriano are basically the same guy. ' 7.92 / 2.98 / 0.98 (3.99 FIP) for Soriano, 8.10 / 2.64 / 1.19 (4.04 FIP) for Redmond. Many people think the Jays should give Soriano a chunk of cash to replace the other righties like Redmond in the later innings, but he's not really superior.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 Whats the latest on eddy? Season is fast approaching
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Redmond projected in Toronto, and Soriano in a league average setting. So Soriano would be even worse than Redmond in Toronto? Interesting.
