Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I think Devon Travis was their 2B move. Had they focused their efforts towards a 2B, they may not have gotten Donaldson. I'm talking about a one year gap. The 2nd base issue had nothing to do with that trade, AA simply added wins, great trade.

Well, since Travis is a 2B, the 2B issue had lots to do with that trade. We'll see how things shake out, but I think that was their 2B move. I'm sure they would've liked a utility IF, but that didn't happen.

Although it had nothing to do with Donaldson, The Travis trade was meant for this season. My guess is he found the free agent options lacking and got a player with a decent floor to be used as soon as he's needed. He will be brought up shortly after either he succeeds in the minors or the MLB options fail.

I agree, Travis more than likely won't be a major contributor this year, a 1 year stop-gap would have been the best course of action at 2nd base to contend this year. I'm still excited to see what the little midget can do
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 No it didn't, it was the right move in concern of 3rd base, I really don't get your 2nd base analogy?

Gorlak Verified Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Any arm can help the BP in-house. Any middle infielder could help at 2nd, Relievers don't have a monopoly on SSS.

That is NOT true.....They were focused on second base when they initially contacted Billy Beane about Donaldson. AA has stated several times his line of thinking was to obtain Donaldson and move Lawrie over to second.

Point being that if they had used some of the assets they gave up in the Donaldson trade to get a really good 2B, they may not have pursued the Donaldson trade. Besides, getting a guy like Donaldson changes things quite a bit. And it's not like Travis couldn't have been offered to Oakland instead of Barreto or Lawrie.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 No. So much of this is wrong, they throw overhand for a living. The weighted ball exercises and strengthens their arms, to limit injury and induce velocity, that's it. I really don't think it's this simple. If it was everyone would be doing it, position players included. Being skeptical of weight ball programs is certainly reasonable.
