I'm taking this with a bit of a grain of salt.

 

But, like, I said in the other thread, such a massive decrease in the approximated recovery time has to indicate that we definitely won't have to wait anywhere close to July to see him.

I was kinda wondering, when I tore my meniscus and had my ACL hanging together by a thread, I was pretty much back to running full speed at 5 weeks.

It's the same injury Derick Rose always has. They were going to remove his as well. Doesn't sound like it's a big deal, why wouldn't they just remove it in the first place instead of waiting for a July return?

The fact that he wanted to remove it regardless of situation tells me he doesn't care about arthritis 10+ years from now. There would have been no guarantee that it wouldn't tear again after repairing it either, so I can understand why he would have elected to remove it. He is 28 and wants to play, win, and make money. Missing another half of a prime season would suck for him.

I can vouch that this is accurate. While I'm obviously not a doctor, I process short term disability claims for a living and a torn meniscus is a common claim. When processing claims we have access to a medical database that uses historical data to give us recovery times for pretty much any surgery, and a meniscus repair(either open or arthroscopic) is a much longer recovery time than an arthroscopic meniscectomy.

 

A repair for someone like an athlete would be 140 days (maximum)

Arthroscopic meniscectomy, 84 days maximum.

 

That assumes no complications or setbacks. Basically 12 weeks vs 20 weeks

The fact that d-wade had his removed in college and still played the way he did has me optimistic for Saunders as a Blue Jay. I worry for him post free agency though.

Sounds like he should be fine short-term. I hope he didn't sign off on a lifetime of knee pain just to come back 3 months early this year though.
