Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Regardless of how big LA's TV deal is, no owner wants to give the rest of the league 40+ Million dollars every year. They will want payroll brought down. Not sure about that. A big TV deal and most owners are laughing.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 What does the League even do with all the money from Luxury Tax and overslot bonus pools? There is like over 50 Million every year lol.

The first $5 million is withheld to cover potential refunds, and is contributed to the Industry Growth Fund (IGF) if no refunds are forthcoming. The remaining money is divided as follows: 50% funds player benefits, 25% funds developing baseball in countries without high school baseball, and 25% goes to the IGF

Which the Dodgers are already doing as we speak--they're expected to be down in the low $200Ms next year, with further reductions as young players come up and most of those expensive players come off the payroll

Its a ton of money so they really can do good with it.

Yeah, July of 2004 against Texas.

If FOX has the Blue Jays on their Saturday broadcast they at least get the ratings if people watch the fox channel in Canada.

They can't afford to take risks right now showing teams that aren't the Yankees/Red Sox or Dodgers/Giants.. ESPN is the one part of Disney that is hurting them. And here's some proof of ESPN's Yankees/Red Sox bias (albeit this article's from 2005.. though nothing's really changed.) http://www.baseballessential.com/news/2015/02/16/a-decade-of-espn-sunday-night-baseball-is-it-really-always-red-soxyankees/
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Kinda random but the Twins are f***ing stupid. They're saying Trevor May's gonna be in the bullpen next year. I have to hope Shapiro is calling that dumb front office, especially after coming from that division. The kid had a 3.35 FIP, 20%K, 15.3 K%-BB% as a SP last year. 1.8 WAR in 83 IP as a starter. Agreed, he certainly should be starting, he'd be an outstanding get.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Even in 2007 yanks and sox only combined for a bit over 30% and that was at the peak of their rivalry when both teams were playing playoffs series very year. I can't imagine the two combining for more than 25% in merchandise sales http://m.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Daily/Issues/2007/04/Issue-135/Sponsorships-Advertising-Marketing/Yankees-Continue-To-Dominate-MLB-Licensed-Merchandise-Sales.aspx?
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I'd be very surprised if the Cubs or Blue Jays didn't lead MLB in jersey sales last year.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 The Estrada and Happ deals just keep looking better
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Cardinals sign Leake Wat. 5/80 for Leake from a smart org?
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 The Estrada and Happ deals just keep looking better Honestly didn't think I'd see this market. A lot of us didn't even want to sign Estrada during last season when it came up, as it often did. Now I'm thankful as fk we did for what we did.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Wat. 5/80 for Leake from a smart org? Smells of desperation a bit I'm still surprised they were willing to give Price 200+M
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I just don't get it. He is not going to more then a 2 WAR player and he is getting 5/80..... No wonder Boras is looking for 5 years for Chen

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Is there a convincing argument that Leake is better than Estrada? I don't see one.
