KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Easily the Red Sox. They were expected to win the division. 5 x Aces
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Weren't people predicting a Red Sox/Nats world series? lol
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Easily the Red Sox. They were expected to win the division. Did anyone smart really expect the Red Sox to winnthe division with that starting rotation?

I don't know about "smart" but... http://m.mlb.com/news/article/115507396/richard-justice-the-red-sox-could-boast-five-pitchers-who-are-ace-caliber If I am ever sad, I read that article and then I am not sad anymore.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Lance McCullers gets optioned to the minors after 1 horrid start. Probably to take advantage of resting him + utilizing his spot. But pretty low move to take advantage of the rosters like that.

That article was ridiculous right from the start. Obviously I didn't expect the rotation to be as bad as it has been but saying they had 5 aces was absolutely ridiculous.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 That article was ridiculous right from the start. Obviously I didn't expect the rotation to be as bad as it has been but saying they had 5 aces was absolutely ridiculous. Meh. They had 3 aces, a very good #2 and a very good 3/4. "5 aces" was hyperbolic, but not THAT egregious. Edit: I'm dumn

BTS Community Moderator Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 3 aces? I thought we were talking Washington. Yeah, that article is egregious, indefensible etc...

But pretty low move to take advantage of the rosters like that. McCullers was pretty dominant up until that start. He was a popular DFS pick, especially for tournaments. I can't actually see this as any kind of demotion, but like you said... some rest I guess... looks like he hasn't pitched this many innings before.

Edit: I'm dumn That is like saying we also have 5 aces. Just because they have the ability to dominate batters once in a blue moon, doesn't make them aces. Buchholz might be the closest thing to an ace they have right now but so was Rickey Romero, how did that turn out?

But he can't, so there goes that.

Probably to take advantage of resting him + utilizing his spot. But pretty low move to take advantage of the rosters like that. It's to conserve his innings. He's already thrown 105.2 IP, and has never throw more than 104.2 IP in a year so far. At his young age, the Astros don't want to risk injury. It's part of the reason they brought in Kazmir and Fiers in the first place, because he and Velasquez have innings caps.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Has any team (other than maybe the Jays LOL) underperformed more compared to expectations than the Nats? If they fail to make the post season this year it will get ugly over there. Matt Williams definitely gets canned if they miss the playoffs, and Mike Rizzo may also end up fired, along with coaches Rick Schu (hitting) and Steve McCatty (pitching). They've built teams to go deep into the playoffs.. yet they either get bounced in the NLDS or miss the playoffs altogether. If they lose the division to the Mets, there will be a bloody mess there, as like the O's, the Nats have a lot of big name free agents (Zimmermann, Span, Desmond, Fister), none of whom are expected to return, as the Nats are already up against payroll parameters. 2017 will be especially ugly, with Harper expected to see a huge raise, and Strasburg, Ramos, Storen, Janssen and Papelbon hitting free agency. It's win now or face a major rebuild after this season for the Nats. Oh, and those Werth and Zimmerman deals are huge albatrosses..
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Ackley to DL (lumbar strain.) And why did the Yanks acquire him?

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Obviously because they want us to reach the playoffs. Considering the Twins melting down in the last month or so, Yanks may get in anyway, even with a wild card. Of course, there's still the O's and Rays to worry about too.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 MLB sked strength for the remainder of the season--O's and Twins most difficult, Tigers near impossible, Jays and Yanks less so. Too bad we're not the Mets.. they have a cakewalk of a sked remaining: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/25259249/first-place-mets-have-weakest-schedule-remaining-in-mlb

Hope Sanchez appeals.. he should never have gotten that suspension. The Gibbons one is justified.. can't go back out on the field after being ejected (see Bobby Valentine).
