BTS Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Kolten Wong just completely embarrassed himself. Rare boos in St. Louis.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Rays win. Jays will pick up ground if they beat the Tigers this afternoon.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 You have to look at the composite because there are salary raises and such. The Blue Jays have only $42.6MM committed, and $63.6MM with EE and Bautista being picked up. Donaldson could get $10MM, Saunders $4MM, Cecil $3.5MM, Valencia $2.3MM, Smoak $3MM, Loup $1.5MM, Hutch $2MM. That adds up to $89.9MM. So they'll have maybe $30MM to play with. That would be a crazy arb raise. He's definitely worth that, but a raise from $4.3M to $10M in a second year of arb is kinda crazypants.

He asked how much and who are coming off the books next year. I just answered what he asked. I get that there are raises.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 And then Bautista will get a raise to probably 20+ M per year for 2017. He deserves it. He absolutely does. the deal AA did with him he doesn't get enough credit for imo. But would WE pay Jose at 37 $20mm? At this point unless it was a one year deal I don't think so.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Bautista will probably net a contract that exceeds Beltran. Beltran signed a 45/3 deal. If I were Bautista I'd ask for 100/5.

For sure he will. I don't think anyone would bite on an ask of 5/100. But I could see 3/55-58. He wont be a Jay imo. If we suck 2016 we will take what he can bring. Ortiz is rolling short deals @$16mm for DHing. The issue for Jays fans is how used to that elite offensive contribution we have become. Our 3/4 hitters are 25mm per. Replacing that production will be painful.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Ortiz starts a first for the Red Sox in a game where not a single putout was registered by a Red Sox first baseman. http://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/791380

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 so can someone explain the big difference in offensive war? Is it simply that Donaldson is producing a higher quantity of quality hits? more RBI? Machado seems to be a much better overall offensive threat, considering the speed.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Michael Brantley should probably not play CF.

Slightly more AB's for JD, Donaldson has the slightly higher ISO, and I think, the ticket is the higher baserunning runs attributed to Donaldson, not just stolen bases, but ability to go first to third->home, second to home, not getting thrown out, etc....
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 What happened to Iwakuma? 3 HRs given up tonight (on 2 sliders and a splitter). Didn't he used to be an elite pitcher?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 So who taught Dayton Moore about baseball all of a sudden? Dumps Jason Frasor and his 1.54 ERA.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Preston Guilmet, a guy these fans on this board are upset AA gave up, has been DFAd by the Rays. Pretty much shows how little the rest of MLB feels of him. The move was made due to Jaso coming off the 60-day. Oh, and another reason the Rays should sell.. Souza has gone on the DL with a pinkie-finger laceration.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 So who taught Dayton Moore about baseball all of a sudden? Dumps Jason Frasor and his 1.54 ERA. And his 1.67 WHIP, and 18/15 K/BB ratio. He's been incredibly lucky.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Holy s***, CWS position players have been worth -3.5 fWAR this year. A White Sox reporter was on with Bobcat yesterday talking about potential Shark deals and was talking about how Eaton and Melky have been busts in LF/CF, but how Avisail Garcia has been good. It made me laugh. -0.6 WAR on the year....in Chicago - that's "good". Nobody corrected him and then they started talking about the possibility of Chris Sale being dealt. That's when I changed the station.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Matt Moore's line today: 4.1 IP, 9H, 4ER, 2BB, 1K, ERA now up to 8.00, 2.11 WHIP. Small sample size, but Moore still looks like he needed more rehab time.. perhaps he needs some time in AAA Durham, because he doesn't look like the dominating pitcher he once was. And that's going to put more pressure on the Rays overworked bullpen.. they're worst in usage by a mile:

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Orlando with a walk off grand slam for KC over the Rays. Off of All-Star reliever Brad Boxberger.. you think MLB can replace him on the roster after this nightmare of an outing? Rays will be behind the Jays by the end of the night, providing the Jays don't screw up vs. Quintana. Rays ownership probably has their trigger finger on the fire sale button as we speak..

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 No way Kenny Williams trades Sale unless he plans on moving on himself. Whitesox reporters are terrible
