Mike Scioscia is a very solid manager. I'd keep him over middling Dipoto every time, especially if there's a gun to my head.

How is he good?

For awhile there - he was always considered to be one of the best in the game. It seems that has wore off and everyone loves Joe Maddon and Showalter now. I don't follow the Angels much - is he an old school guy who doesn't accept advance statistics and thus has fallen behind the times?

- BB rate less than career average

- K rate higher than career average

- ISO 0.07 above career average

143 wRC+ on a 0.434 BABIP. The magic probably ends when the BABIP drops 100+ points. He's not a terrible hitter, but unfortunately his defense only plays at DH and when everything settles the bat likely won't be good enough.

He seems quite capable at 1B. I understand fielding% isn't a concrete stat to look at but if you consider his 11 year minor league career with 689 games at 1B, he has a .990 Fld%. In comparison, Justin Smoak has an identical .990 % in 214 games at 1B. Cola has never been used at his natural position at the majors for defensive metrics to be useful.

The reason there's a rift between him and Dipoto to begin with is because he fired Scoscia's BFF Mickey Hatcher, because apparently being buds with Mike means unlimited job security. I don't know if Hatcher "deserved it" but turnover in that spot is pretty rampant and to cry about it for like 3 years is ridiculous. Invite the guy over for a barbecue if you miss him so much.

Now, Scoscia is being a sourpuss and refuses to utilize things like scouting reports, spray charts, hitter tendencies that are passed to him by the FO. He's very anti-stat and thinks he's bigger and more important than the guy above him.

the best thing Scoscia ever did was demand he players take the extra base any chance they got. I can't give him credit for much else

Holy, are the ESPN guys doing tonight's game way off on their projections.. Red Sox winning the East? Mariners winning the West? White Sox winning the Central? Way off...

Tigers losing badly to the Pirates. That bullpen is going to be torched by the Jays series.. after all, they played an extra-inning game last night.

Huston Street has some interesting comments regarding closers and defined roles

I believe the human element often gets overlooked by most on this board, but a lot of what he saI'd sounds ridiculous to me. I could understand maybe a psychological effect like he talks about but not that the bullpen will be more tired because you pitch in different innings some days.

Isn't his beef with Adam Jones and their pitchers?

There was some crowing with Delmon Young as well. IIRC, Young is the guy Bautista tried to throw out at first. Young is garbage both on and off the field anyways. Pass.

Does anyone know where the Rays offense went? Indians pitchers have looked like Cy Young or Nolan Ryan all week..

I have to ask, do you sincerely mean the posts you make or is this all just some elaborate gimmick?
