Heyman once again spewing garbage that agents pay him to report. Joel Sherman #Cubs offered $60M-ish to Shields last wk, #Dodgers were pursued by Shields more than other way, #Bluejays didn’t talk to him in last 2 wks
admin Site Manager Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Cotillo is saying that it's done now, pending physical. Four years for between 72M and 78M. Padres lose pick #13 for signing him, so if you want to translate total costs to dollars, say the contract is for 82M to 88M (I think that pick is worth around 10 million....) He projects for 3.0, 2.5, 2.0, and 1.5 WAR in the next four years. 9.0 total. He would have been a 1.5 win upgrade over Toronto's #5 SP (if you call that #5 SP Daniel Norris pitching 150 innings as projected by Steamer). The upgrade probably would have been a bit higher than that though because SP depth is more fluid than that and there is a trickle down effect. You could call it 2 wins right now for ~20M. There are cheaper ways to add two wins! That makes things a little better, but I really doubt his WAR drops off like that. No reason he can't put up 3.5+ next year. Guy is a machine though, and that's what he would have given us. You know exactly what you're going to get. You're going to get 200+ innings and an ERA around 3.5. There's not a single Jay in the rotation you can predict. Buehrle and Dickey are pretty reliable, but who knows how they'll do this year, their ERA could easily be in the mid 4s. Stroman, who knows how he'll do, same with Hutch. With Shields you know exactly what you're getting.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 So with this saga over, what Scurbs do we sign still for ummm added depth! Who do we turn are attentions too, in the coming weeks left before spring training or do we stand pat?
flafson Verified Member Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Funny, they are saying he had a 4 year 80M offer on the table and it wasn't the Cubs, Cubs only offered 3 year + option. He chose to give San Diego a discount.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Nice deal by SD, very decent value. Solid offseason they had, they will be a fun team to watch this year.
