if ichiro = toritani I can live with this

What you're trying to say here is ambiguous. Ichiro is essentially a scrub player now with a glimmer of star factor. If Ichiro = Toritani I don't want either of them.

It's ok if you are incapable of deducing meaning

I have no problem with Ichiro being invited to ST to compete for the 4th OF job and making the minimum if he makes the team + incentives. As for giving him between $1-2M on a guaranteed MLB deal, no thanks!

Pillar should be able to outperform Ichiro, although the difference is probably minimal. If paying Ichiro one or two million provides more than that in additional revenue because of the name factor, then go for it. Otherwise, there's really no point.

Ichiro is not completely useless, but on a major league deal? Decent chance he's gone by mid-season.

If the news is true it is good though, the Jays should be adding someone reliable in the OF. I thought Eric Young was on the block earlier?

EY would be amazing. I'd take Ichiro for depth and vet presence on the cheap, I'm sure he can still work a decent PC and slap a few singles.

I would be okay with Ichiro, too. You know JB will get hurt at some point, or Pompey might fizzle. He didn't have good winter ball numbers.

Why would jb get hurt. He is the best conditioned player on the team

Why are people OK with Suzuki? He's basically performing at scrub level and he's only getting older. He should have just retired in 2013 on a somewhat decent note as a Yank... I presume he just wants to get to 3K hits...

Probably because he's well respected for his professionalism and might be a good influence in the clubhouse. Also defensively he's got adequate speed still and like I said can work a count, slap some timely singles, and steal a base occasionally along with being a lefty which we need more of. I mean who would you rather have up at the plate in a pressure situation late in the game, him or some greenhorn? I'll go with the guy who's been there a million times. He's not a big difference maker at this point in his career but I don't see what the problem is if he comes relatively cheap. Pillar has options for the minors and chances are we'll need them both at some point In the season knowing our luck. The more depth the better I say..

What you said. He'd be excellent to have off the bench.

What the f*** are you talking about man? The ability to 'slap singles' or have 'adequate speed' (both of which are questionable at this point in his career) has no merit over actual combined offensive and defensive performance/output - the only thing that really matters. And it's not good, it's sub-par, scrub level. We do not want Ichiro Suzuki. There are a hundred better players. Whether we can get him 'cheap' is a moot point unless we are aware of a budget, but we're not.

I especially like how people are thanking you for your senseless post. Lends more credibility to the board.

Relax champ keep it in your pants, slow down before you give yourself an aneurysm. He is who he is and obviously he's not a fangraphs wet dream or the 2nd coming of Christ in regards to combined offensive/defensive output but I think we need some additional depth outside of Pillar & Carrera and Ichiro can hold some value in an extreme buy low circumstance. Of course we're not aware of the budget but what we are aware of is AA's spending behavior is of that a GM who is constantly under the squeeze from ownership (I think last years trade deadline and the Santana hat passing rumors last off season are evidence enough). I'd like to hear these 100 attainable outfield options that fit our needs for the same price? Last I heard Denorfia was off the market now so just who are we talking about here..

The problem is that he's a replacement-level player at this point, and too much playing time for bad players has crippled this team in the last two years. This season should be all-in - go get a 4th OF who can play.

I agree but I'm just not sure of the remaining targets and my concern is more from a depth standpoint. Don't get me wrong if AA is working on something better then by all means, I too want him to be all in. However if it's boiling down to him leaning towards standing pat than I'd rather Ichiro be thrown into the mix for some additional depth.

I would agree, but we've all seen the Vizquel/DeRosa show - If Ichiro signs even a minor league deal he's here until October and probably gets 300+ PA. I'd rather just avoid the debacle altogether.

You relax. I was paraphrasing Billy Beane from Moneball, I guess you didn't catch that.

By 'not a fangraphs web dream' I think you mean he's not actually a good player any more, right? Because he's not. To be perfectly honest I think you are a little star struck and ignoring the larger picture; which is to establish the highest performing baseball team possible. Yes he is (was) the great Ichiro Suzuki, but the last thing we need on this team is another aging Frank Thomas or Omar Vizquel with glorified expectations of grandeur. There is no real evidence of a budget squeeze now either, by all accounts AA has flexibility with payroll, obviously he still has to justify any move... for example we've seen major leaps in payroll in signing Martin. Personally I'd like to get Aoki or make a trade for someone who is not a scrub and can at least be a solid player.

Lol I am very relaxed, I was actually responding more to your useless post statement in your last paragraph. It kills me sometimes how self righteous, petty and bent out of shape some posters get on here. The condescending all knowing attitude and ridiculous arguments I've witnessed over the last year plus on these boards is laughable. We all come here for the love of the game and to discuss it for leisure yet people get so defensive-territorial about their board and so called baseball knowledge that it's ridiculous. I always feel sorry for the new posters who come on and are excited to learn and discuss the game because they get ripped apart by a condescending wolf pack who act like bullies protecting their school yard. Who cares about the online dick swinging contests, I mean really is your life that boring? I don't know if this is you or not but your comments seemed to be coming from that place.

I'm not really sold on the AA flexibility theory, I would love for that to be the case but I'm skeptical. How is the Martin signing a leap in payroll? We didn't resign a ton of players and lost others in trades, we're still currently below last years payroll. I respect Ichiro's career as much as the next guy but I'm realistic about his limitations/expectations, I just feel we could use him as depth. That said I get the apprehension people have because he's so long in the tooth. Aoki would be sweet, I'd be all for that if we can land him.

For a guy who is relaxed you seem really bent out of shape about some general baseball discussion. Which is all I was doing. No need to get offended.
