My take is that I didn't think it was possible for all three teams to lose a 3-way trade until now.

Elaborate?

Pretty good trade for the Padres IMO

Probably the smartest thing you ever said.

TB - Loses because they moved sideways, not upgrading much on either Hanigan or Myers, while getting older. Added not much for upside prospects and only Burch Smith is a real wildcard here as he could breakout like he was expected by many to do before his injury.

Washington loses depth. Souza could have allowed them to make a lot of different moves. I like Joe Ross a lot but he's likely a #4/5 guy that isn't going to help this season.

San Diego loses, cause they are San Diego. Adding Kemp and Myers gives them some potential high end talent. But even if Kemp gets back to Kemp, and Myers gets back to Myers...they still are surrounded by s***. And the guys that a lot of the guys they have moved in these two deals...might not be s***.

how did the nationals get trea turner and joe ross for steven souza and travis ott? The Rays got the short end of the stick and the padres and nationals made out like bandits. We should have went after Myers.

I think the Rays gave up on Myers too soon, the Nats should have hung onto Souza a bit longer, and the Padres should have made the trade straight up for Souza, kept Smith and Rivera, and left the Rays out of the deal completely.

Rizzo wins again.

Rizzo is the AA of the NL. He just keeps making moves without any thought of injuries to his 25 man roster. Souza was amazing depth to an oft injured OF/1B. Now they are back to hoping that Nate McLouth becomes 2013 Nate McLouth. Ross one of a bunch of guys that are in line to replace Zimmerman and Fister.

Rizzo is a genius. He got Trea Turner and Joe Ross for a AAAA player in Souza.

According to RIPEXPOS, the Nats just acquired Rickey Henderson in this deal.

The Rays receive a lot of talent in this deal. I don't think you can count their side out. Souza might be a productive big leaguer right away, Burch Smith has a big arm and Rene Rivera is at least comparable to Hanigan. Myers isn't the generational hitter people thought he'd be.

It's probably a fair deal overall. Many people thought that Souza was an underrated asset but the Nationals are receiving a chunk of value for him.

I hope Rizzo doesn't rush Trea Turner, he'll need 3 or 4 years in the minors

Seems like a 2016 call-up to me if stuff goes to plan. He should be in AA by the end of next year; crushed A-ball in 2014.

Anyone calling a winner or loser at this point is pretending they're a lot smarter than they are. This is one of those deals that's impossible to judge. We'll see who had the best internal evaluations.

I believe the Rays come out on top for the very reasons you posted. Burch Smith gives them the edge, IMO. Everything else is pretty much lateral, also, lol @ whoever said Souza's a 4A player?

Like you said in another post, this trade needs some time to assess a winner. However, I think Nats made out the best for the reason that they got Trea Turner AND Joe Ross.

I think Souza is a AAAA player because he had his break out hitting year at the age of 25. That's a little late and you're older than your competition. I've also read that Souza didn't take baseball seriously until recently, so I might be wrong going forward.

Either way I would take Trea Turner/Joe Ross over Souza/Ott.

Plenty of hitters are late bloomers though. The recent Phillies playoff runs were build in part on Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Shane Victorino and Jayson Werth, who had their first full ML seasons at ages 26, 26, 25 and 28, respectively. There's nothing wrong with not being established at 25.

Souza's minor league stats are ridiculous and the projections (like Steamer) support him being an average regular or better.

You're right. I could be wrong on him. Or maybe I'm just taken aback at how Rizzo got those two on what could have been a drive-by yoink.

Frankly, I don't know enough about all the players involved to form a truly educated opinion on this deal, but this was funny s***.

Very eloquent insight.

You parading around pretending to know everything is pretty tiresome and I don't care to go down that road. All in all, deal seems pretty ok for most parties and I like that the Rays got San Diego to include Jake Bauers.

I don't think I know everything, I don't pretend that I know everything, and I absolutely don't care if you perceive it that way. The guy asked people for their take, I gave mine. In my opinion, the trade is a 3-way wash. Nobody got a sure thing, and each of the three teams is hoping on someone panning out or doing something they haven't yet done. That's my opinion; if that is really as extreme as warranting a "Holy f***" of disbelief from the guy who spends time raging at Heyman on twitter, then so be it.
