TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 On the other hand, Orioles fans should be f***ing pissed off right now. We don't know if Hoffman alone was ever even on the table, but they're all going to believe that he was, and that Angelos said no to just Hoffman, something most of them seemed to be more than okay with as a straight-up trade. Not only that, but after all of them made peace with the idea of losing Duquette, and actually wanted him out at this point, they're going to be stuck with him coming back. In a way shouldn't the Jays fans also? Jays now have an outgoing President who's boss tried to replace him without telling him. That's got to be some awkward meetings in the future for Pelley (who I honestly believe had little idea what Rogers was doing). Beest is known as easy-going so Jays fans can hope that he just laughs it off as an idiot owner sticking his nose in. I'd pay to sit in on the first meeting between Eddie and Beest though (I wonder if Harbour 60 would let me just hang out there and order water all day)
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 They have a payroll north of 250 mil....they better be having a good offseason. The vast majority of which was inherited from the previous F/O and since we were discussing the Zaidi/Friedman combo as a top 5 GM in the game, it's pertinent to see how they've done in their first off season at the helm of the Dodgers' baseball dept.
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 I hope they file tampering charges and it gets into a messy legal bout where in the end we have to only pay a fine. Then it would string along idiot Orioles fans who think judges will order a team to trade players as compensation for the tampering while causing dysfunction in the Orioles front office by forcing DD to stay against his will.
flafson Verified Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 This is just more negotiating through the media. A part of me still doesn't think this is over. Sorry. Of course not, you have a bet that DD will move to us within a month, you might lose the bet if it's over.
Orioles Verified Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 But like i said from the start you Wouldn't get DD for a AAAA player.

If so, wouldn't not being offered a new one be a tip off you're going to be replaced? I'm confused as to why he was so caught off guard they were seeking a replacement.
rookiefuzz Verified Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 O's board room. Angelos: "Woah that was a wild ride hey guys?" *Flips open news paper non-chalant* DD:
flafson Verified Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 But like i said from the start you Wouldn't get DD for a AAAA player. Considering PA wanted at least Hoffman, Pentecost and Nay, i doubt he would have approved a deal even if it involved Mike Trout. It's pretty clear he didn't want any deal to happen and i'm happy for it.

I think he was told they couldn't find anyone right now so he will stay where he is for the 2015 season.

BTS Community Moderator Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 But like i said from the start you Wouldn't get DD for a AAAA player. There were no winners here. Ed Rogers acted like an incompetent ass, while at the same time Angelos should have let Duquette take the raise/promotion. The alternative was offering Duquette the same role in Baltimore, but those jobs are reserved for Angelos and sons.
Orioles Verified Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Roch Kubatko @masnRoch 30s30 seconds ago Someone else asked whether its 3rd or 4th time not negotiating anymore. So for now, lets say #orioles have no knowledge of Jays intentions
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 They should actually be happy. DD is so much better than the replacement GMs. A suggestion of Minaya, Towers, Malone should be enough for a fanbase to revolt against their owner. For those that care Shi is going to talk about it on the Fan at 2:15

If so, wouldn't not being offered a new one be a tip off you're going to be replaced? I'm confused as to why he was so caught off guard they were seeking a replacement. Ownership (Ed Rogers) turned this into a gong show. If they were gonna replace Beeston this off season, they should've let him know and gone on about the business of finding a new Prez. Instead, they went to the Yankees for advice, then didn't follow protocol when they asked Reindorf for permission to speak with Williams (great f***ing choice). Then got into a mess with the O's over DD. Also, this wasn't just about replacing Beeston. By going after 2 guys who are known as general managers first and foremost, they were also trying to replace AA, or at least demote him to being a figure head.

He was representing the team, while having no contract. There is an implied contract there.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 The work is done. Shortly will explode the bomb installed by the Jays in the Orioles organization.
Rusty_Savage Verified Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 But like i said from the start you Wouldn't get DD for a AAAA player. And you wouldn't get Hoffman, Pentecost, and Nay for a suit. As if Baltimore didn't have a hard enough time in hiring executives, it should be substantially more difficult when it appears they won't let their emloyess interview for promotions.
flafson Verified Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Maybe now Rogers will feel bad and open the wallet to get Shields?

Thats why they'll let DD walk. Walking away is going to each others room and stewing about what just happened and re-visiting it later. That's if Rogers decides it doesn't want someone else in the interm. Edited January 25, 2015 by rookiefuzz
King Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Hoffman, Pentecost, Nay + ? ROFL!

Me thinks that it gets revisited in the offseason. If things go awry this season, they probably clean house and let DD (or whomever) hire his own GM and manager.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Rogers has a huge task now to clean up this PR mess. Won't be easy.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 O's crappy board comments please!! O's fans want a compensation pick for tampering.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 One good thing may have come out of this. I never really thought the Jays had a real rival (20 years without the playoffs can do that), but maybe now the Jays/Orioles can spill their hatred for each other on the field. The fans already hate each other, and now the front offices hate each other.

Rusty_Savage Verified Member Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Peter Gammons was the first. Olney is still a douche.
