Westfan Verified Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 McCarthy and Lowrie. *drools* Add Pat Neshek to that list and it would be a perfect off season. Well Miller would make it perfect but we can't win them all. Question? Can Navarro net the Jays a good reliever and who would be trade targets
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Lester over Shields please. Yeah, but his demands are probably too high/long. Plus, AA has been enamored with Shields before (nearly dealt TDA for him rather than Dickey but Myers was the better offer). Lester is better but Shields is more plausible.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Lester over Shields please. No draft pick attached
King Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Lester over Shields please. You appear to be up in the #LoD draft.

Can Navarro net the Jays a good reliever and who would be trade targets Possibly Texas, long shots Cubs/Dodgers maybe Pitt, but the Jays probably have to eat half his contract to the latter clubs.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Sanchez 5th SP? - Please nooo
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 No draft pick attached Than McCarthy, the draft pick, would be mum...regardless at this point.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Jed Lowrie makes the most sense right now. 2B - Lowrie/Travis/Goins/Izturis SS - Reyes/Lowrie/Goins/Izturis 3B - J.D./Valencia/Lowrie/Izturis You know what ..... f*** Izturis.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I think one thing that isn't being appreciated enough is how much money that the Saunders acquisition really saves. Not only will he be making less than half of what Happ would have (net savings of around 3M), this trade almost definitely puts a close to the Melky chapter, who will probably get more than 40M now after today's Markakis atrocity. Not to mention the draft pick they'll now obtain when the Maker of Melk signs elsewhere.

I had the same thought lol Valencia and Goins for the bench would be fine for me because if we do our job and bring in another hitting outfielder Goins would be 4th in line to pinch hit anyways and would merely be a defensive replacement.

Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Depth chart for 5th starter should be Estrada to start the season with Norris and Sanchez in AAA competing to take it. As it stands today ... I agree
TDotttt2005 Verified Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Even better: Nick Markakis to the Braves! http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/12/braves-to-sign-nick-markakis.html It's coming up Millhouse! The timing of these 2 moves make me wonder if the Jays were in on Markakis until the last second. When he decided to go home to Georgia, we pulled the trigger on the Saunders deal.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Depth chart for 5th starter should be Estrada to start the season with Norris and Sanchez in AAA competing to take it. I agree. If one of them looks really good in ST you can have slide Estrada to the bullpen in long relief. With 20 million to spend and potentially 25 if they get rid of Navarro, then we can still afford to sign a SP and fill out the bullpen.

King Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Mike Wilner @Wilnerness590 now AA: Been trying to acquire Saunders the last few years, had strong desires to bring Melky back. #Bluejays #Jays
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Depth chart for 5th starter should be Estrada to start the season with Norris and Sanchez in AAA competing to take it. I can't help but notice how the payroll keeps conveniently sliding lower and lower, while also keeping in mind how adamant Alex/Beeston were in saying that the payroll was almost sure to rise. There's now a pretty sizeable chunk of space between where the payroll will be, versus where it was projected to be. ....could there really be a big starter acquisition on the horizon? Scares me to think about it, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. If they really did go after one of the big-three, I almost have to assume they'd be most interested in Shields (AA has complimented him heavily in the past, he's got an AL East pedigree, and there's no way he's making more than five years). I'm not sure if I'm all that comfortable with them giving Shields what he'll command at this point.

vancity787 Verified Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 We all know this team needed starting pitching. Im thinkin AA has something else in the works if he trading away Happ. Gotta believe another deal will come down soon.

King Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Mike Wilner @Wilnerness590 now AA: Saunders has always been productive player because of defense and baserunning. 5 tools may have led to unfair expectations. #Bluejays
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Saunders at 2.9 million whereas Melky will be making 12-14 million. You know what deal is better
