TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 (edited) Didn't expect Dirks and Smoak to be non-tendered, and was hoping that Estrada was. Maybe this means they've got something in the works for LF and 1B, as they've no longer got anyone on the MLB roster right now that fits into either of those spots. gbill2004 Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 AA must have some other moves in the works.
baubau Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Truthfully I am a little surprised by Smoak. I am a even surprised Estrada was kept. Thought his price tag was not worth it.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 AA must have some other moves in the works. This is my assumption as well. Dirks and Mayberry gone really makes it look like they're confident about getting someone in left field. They've already said they want Pillar/Pompey competing for CF, so unless I'm missing someone, that leaves nobody for left field on the current MLB roster. May be some truth to the Fowler/Markakis rumors perhaps? Who knows with AA.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I interpret this as a good sign. This means there is no intention to go with scrubs anywhere outside of 2B.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Yes. I am happy about all 3

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I don't mind the rest but I thought Smoak would have been a nice low risk experiment at 1st. Oh well let's see what AA has in mind
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 What is that??? Close to 8 million trimmed?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Welcome back Melky (Pompey CF, Pillar CF, Valencia 1B/3B bench)
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 This is the best conclusion I can come up for this as well.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Yep, either Melky is coming back or AA has something else lined up. They pretty much lost all their LF and 1B options with this non tender (assuming Edwin is at DH).
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Anyone else find it funny that with the hundreds of times Smoak and Dirks' names have been mentioned on this board they won't even record a PA with the Jays.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 Estrada is AA's new Carlos Villanueva/Esmil Rogers. We know that, and we don't hate him as an option in that role, but 4.5M just seems pretty steep when Donaldson will be making the same amount in arb. They could do better for that money on the open market. I have an inside source that says the Jays have Markakis in their back pocket. I like your name, and this wouldn't surprise me a whole lot. I do prefer Markakis to Melky, but I kinda preferred Dirks to Markakis as well, hearing the kind of contract Markakis is expected to make.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I think this is a good sign for us, I'm even more confident we re sign Melky, or bring in a guy like Markakis/Fowler. If we can somehow trade for Fowler, than sign Melky or Markakis. Our lineup would be absolutely unreal. 1.Reyes 2.Markakis/Melky 3 .Bautista 4.EE 5.Donaldson 6.Martin 7.1st basemen 8.Fowler 9. 2nd basemen

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 Best tweet of the day: I thought this was THE place to be if you're a Blue Jays fan. Disappointing. I think you misinterpreted that guys post.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 This leaves three outfielders on the 40-man: Bautista, Pompey, Pillar What is that??? Close to 8 million trimmed?

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Mith Moreland here we go!!
Caper Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I wonder if this makes Kevin Pillar feel pumped.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 I kinda wish Estrada was NT'd just so that number would spike up to "11M cleared", and it would have made me like the Lind dump a bit more, but eh, I can live with it.

AA certainly likes his serviceable #5 SPs. He gave up some stuff to get Happ and keeps picking up his option. Traded for Estrada and tendered him. I guess a year of giving 10+ starts to the Wangs and the Ramon Ortiz' of the world will do that to a GM.
Lawrie22 Verified Member Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Mith Moreland here we go!! I really could see this happening. A Moreland/Navarro swap makes sense for both teams I think. After you have Moreland at DH you need a RHB on the bench other than pillar to platoon at DH. An interesting free agent IMO is corey hart. I think he would be cheap as a bounce back canadate and a good platoon with Moreland. After those 2 moves the blue jays need a LW and bullpen help. I really hope they go to free agency to fill both holes instead of trading any more prospects. LW can be filled by one of Markakis/Cabrera/Aoki. Those are my preferances in order. I also see the jays signing 2 pen arms. One of which will Jason Grilli I think (past interest from club and Martin connection). I would like the jays to sign a second arm and would love it if they could like Romo who could come at a decent deal if we promise him the chance to close. After these moves the team is stacked! 1.Reyes-SS 2.Markakis-LF 3.Bautista-RF 4.Encarnacion-1B/DH 5.Donaldson-3B 6.Martin-C 7.Moreland/Hart- DH/1B 8.Izturis/Goins/Travis-2B 9.Pompey-CF Bench Thole-C Pillar-OF Goins-IF Hart/Moreland-PH Dickey Stroman Buerhle Hutchison Happ Estrada Loup Redmond Sanchez Cecil Grilli Romo
