Spoonovic Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I feel like a little kid on christmas just thinking about our first five batting order next year. Five guys who dont strike out and have high OBPs. Lets have some fun and talk discuss how we would arrange the first five batting order. Mine: 1. Reyes 2. Donaldson 3. Bautista 4. EE 5. Martin I assume that the number one discussion in this thread is who should be hitting second, Martin or Donaldson. So feel free to discuss that. And if you want to dream big and assume that Melky will be re-signed, feel free to give us your batting order with Melky too.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Reyes Bautista Martin EE Donaldson I know it's unconventional, but it gives Bautista tonnes of ABs, keeps EE at Cleanup and is still awesome... Though, frankly, those 5 in any order (provided Reyes is #1, since obvious...) is a great order...

But I feel there is a zero percent chance we will see this line up unless there has been a huge change in Gibby's philosophy. But the point of the thread was lets see your preferred line up not Gibby's.
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 6. Smoak 7. Pompey 8. Pillar 9. Izturis
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I think Donaldson at 2 is a waste. I believe all the power hitters should be 3 and below. And I don't mind having them three straight. As much as possible I'd like a lefty in the #2 slot. Hopefully Pompey ends up there over the course of the season. Or we can just resign Melky.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 6. Smoak 7. Pompey 8. Pillar 9. Izturis And that's not even an awful 6-9. Smoak and Pompey both have some upside.
Spoonovic Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 Reyes Melky Bautista EE Donaldson Martin Mayberry/Valencia with a Left handed Hitter platoon Travis/Izturis/Goins Pompey Fap Fap Fap

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Need a LHB bat now. Man Lind would make that lineup even better. I wonder whats going through Bautista`s head now. This is something huge huge huge
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Right now: Reyes Martin Bautista Encarnacion Donaldson Navarro Pompey [LF] [2B]
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Right now: Reyes Martin Bautista Encarnacion Donaldson Navarro Pompey [LF] [2B] Based on OBP I would put Donaldson ahead of Encarnacion, but man a lineup like that would make a LHP run out of town. Just need to play it safe now add some depth.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Right now: Reyes Martin Bautista Encarnacion Donaldson Navarro Pompey [LF] [2B] I really can't see Martin batting 2nd with Donaldson in the fold... Donaldson has as much power as Edwin, and maybe as much as Bautista... I think Reyes Donaldson/Bautista Bautista/Donaldson Edwin Martin Martin is great, but he's not a top 4 hitter in this lineup anymore...
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Reyes Donaldson Bautista Encarnacion Martin Souza Smoak Drew Pompey pls

I think it would be better to have a LH bat in between all of those RH bats so managers can't just bring in a RHP to face all the righties. Since Reyes is a switch hitter but bats better from the Left side managers could bring in a LHP for him and the #2 hitter than switch it.

Just need to play it safe now add some depth. That makes sense. I just felt EE's been batting pretty well behind Joey and not to mess with it. I'm still hoping one more move happens. The bottom of the order doesn't look too optimistic, but I think Pompey can surprise this season. Not expecting too many things from Pillar until I see it actually happen. It seems like AA keeps referring to Donaldson as a "middle of the order" guy, I thought something like this is decided by Gibby not the GM? There have been a lot of different opinions lately... Some of the modern ideas are that #3 is a much less important lineup position than it used to be considered...
S33n Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 4 right handed hitters in a row kinda sucks, gotta find a way to break them up a little.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Ideally the 1st and 2nd hitters are high OBP, then 3rd, 4th, 5th are guys that put the ball in play, don't strike out much. Reyes, Martin, Bautista, Donaldson, EE is how I would line them up
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I would even consider putting Bautista bat in at 2nd. His best career numbers are batting 2nd, Me thinks.
Governator Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Reyes Cabrera Bautista Donaldson Encarnacion Martin Navarro/Smoak Izturis/Travis Pompey ?
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Reyes Cabrera Bautista Donaldson Encarnacion Martin Navarro I don't think Melky is the right way to spend money anymore. Needs to go towards pitching
Governator Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I don't think Melky is the right way to spend money anymore. Needs to go towards pitching 3/39 is a little more enticing for him now than before though and should stiill have money left over.
