Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 jonmorosi Blue Jays are, however, working to add a left-handed bat to their lineup. One name they are talking about: Jay Bruce.

LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 People don't want the player coming off one bad season?
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 He's got 3 more years left on his contract with an AAV of $12.5 million. Decent contract.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Good buy low opportunity on Bruce. What would the Reds asking price be?
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Good Bye Aaron Sanchez. Sigh.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Good Bye Aaron Sanchez. Sigh. I wouldn't mind Bruce, but there's no way Alex is giving up Sanchez for Bruce.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Good Bye Aaron Sanchez. Sigh. If that's the price, I'd rather just give Melky a little more like 3/48 and keep Sanchez.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Do not want He averaged 3.5 WAR and 30 HR over the 4 seasons before 2014, but I'm sure he's total garbage now. At age 27, he's surely in steep decline.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 He's interesting and we really need a good left handed bat but I'm so tired of guys who can't get on base consistently.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Bruce just looks like a guy who found an approach that worked and then got stagnant. Baseball is a game of adjustments; a war against attrition. A change of scenery might be all he needs to spark a small adjustment to his approach that gets him back to being huge.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 Good Bye Aaron Sanchez. Sigh. I wouldn't mind Bruce, but there's no way Alex is giving up Sanchez for Bruce. Sanchez for Bruce lol Bruce value WAR$ 2010 - $19.8M 2011 - $13.5M 2012 - $9.5M 2013 - $20M He's 27

BallsDeep Verified Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Or we don't panic and assume it would be Sanchez going the other way...
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Or we don't panic and assume it would be Sanchez going the other way... yeah..it could be dickey and thole!
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 So are you saying Sanchez for Bruce is a reasonable trade? Bruce is a great asset. Sanchez is just a Starter who can't pitch +5 innings.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Bruce looks like a platoon bat to me, do not want for what they are probably asking for.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 would rather part with Nolin and a lesser piece, say DSJ
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 Neither Bruce nor Jaso. Conor Gillaspie will be the guy. Book it!
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Sanchez for Bruce lol Bruce value WAR$ 2010 - $19.8M 2011 - $13.5M 2012 - $9.5M 2013 - $20M He's 27 How'd he do in 2014??? Just wondering cause you left that year out.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Good Bye Aaron Sanchez. Sigh. How'd he do in 2014??? Just wondering cause you left that year out. Bruce had a negative WAR in 2014. Projected 1.4 WAR for 2015.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 How'd he do in 2014??? Just wondering cause you left that year out. Some posters here are judging Bruce for an awful 2014. My point is......he was great before 2014.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 If this was after 2013, posters on here would be wanting to trade Sanchez +++ without any hesitation for Bruce. Funny how one year changes things, and most don't even want to touch him. The guy was a legitimate power bat from 2011-2013 with 3 straight 30 + HR seasons, and he's only 27.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Some posters here are judging Bruce for an awful 2014. My point is......he was great before 2014. In the context of what to give up for him. You don't trade an ace calibre arm like Sanchez for a guy coming off a year like that.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Some posters here are judging Bruce for an awful 2014. My point is......he was great before 2014. Bruce clearly wasn't healthy last year. Makes you hesitant about his health moving forward, but if he can return to health he will be a lot better next year regardless of where he plays.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 I'd like Bruce, but like I said the other day, at the salary he's making, I wouldn't give up Sanchez for him. You can resign Melky or go after Headley without giving up prospects. If Cincy was willing to eat his salary, or if he was in arb or something, it'd be a different story.
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Jays would not have to give up Sanchez Bruce was -1.1 WaR last year. For comparison Rasmus was .6 Bruce makes 12.5 million a year It's a salary dump. Maybe give up a low level guy outside of top 20 prospects

Maybe give up a low level guy outside of top 20 prospects Yes, I'm thinking along these lines, and if it's a salary dump, then it's something the Jays should jump at, but I have a feeling that at that point many other teams will be interested as well. Anyone remember what Trumbo was traded for?
