Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Center fielder Dexter Fowler and catcher Jason Castro are available in a deal and the Astros wouldn’t mind dealing for bullpen help. Fowler had a decent year and enjoyed more success as a right-handed hitter. The 28-year-old (29 by Opening Day) slashed .327/.419/.467 as a right-handed hitter but hit just .260/.361/.376 from the other side of the plate. Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle has heard that the asking price is high on Castro and that there aren’t any contract talks currently taking place between the two sides. Steamer 109 wRC+, ~2WAR CF One year under control ~9M, 13% walk rate, run well, avg defense LF
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 NAME DROP ALERT!!!! jks. I've always been a fan of Fowler - he would be an interesting target from Houston. Love his .OBP skills.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Not sure what the price tag would be but it's definitely worth looking into.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2014 Author Posted November 23, 2014 Not sure what the price tag would be but it's definitely worth looking into. Sean Nolin + Rasmussen
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Just pass on this, we have Pompey! If you want a astro player so bad just claim Deliono Shields for free!
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Happ for Fowler ? I'd be all over that.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Happ won't get you Fowler. Maybe Nolin +, like Ang suggested. I think AA said recently that the hang-up in some trade talk is the "+" that teams are asking for since it's likely a lower level 'spect and the Jays have several of those.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 I'd be all over that. Astros want a reliever in return. I don't think Happ can be sold as a reliever, as he has openly stated he sees himself as a starter.
King Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Just pass on this, we have Pompey! If you want a astro player so bad just claim Deliono Shields for free! We can't "claim Delino for free". And Delino sucks. If you hate Gose, you'd probably hate DeShields even more.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Can't see the Astros wanting a reliever in return. Front office does some dumb things but they know value of players.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 I could get behind this. I like Fowler.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Fowler would be a great addition.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 if the 'stros do indeed want a reliever could we part with Loup + minor pieces?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Just pass on this, we have Pompey! If you want a astro player so bad just claim Deliono Shields for free! Nothing wrong with either of them in LF. Either of them there would probably be 25+ runs saved over the butchery of Melky.

King Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 You know, just kinda claim him on outta there.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Author Posted November 24, 2014 I don't love his defence. we're talking about LF defense. I don't even care.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 we're talking about LF defense. I don't even care. Hypothetically the positional adjustment fully and completely negates the difference in positional competence. A ~2 win player doesn't get any more valuable because you move him to LF instead of CF. A Dirks/Pillar/Mayberry platoony thing can probably be worth more than 2 WAR (this is why you let Melky walk and only bring in a LF if it's someone comfortably above average).
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 For no players and less money we can sign and play Suzuki or Denaforia and spend the money else where! Headley and Sheilds!

This doesn't make sense?? If true why would it matter where you played anybody?? As they are put in more difficult positions players will reach a point where they lose more in defensive value then they gain in offensive. So there are players who would be 2 wins in cf but 3 wins in lf. There might be an argument to be made that in this individual case Fowler's skill set doesn't play in lf either. I don't know. But in general players do have a position where there contributions are optimized.
