90% chance Panda signs with Red Sox, 10% chance he signs with Tor. Taxes are an issue

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) –The Giants need to start looking for a third baseman because Pablo Sandoval is likely not coming back to San Francisco.

After speaking with two sources, here’s what I’ve been able to put together:

The Giants offered Pablo the same contract given to Hunter Pence, five years at $90 million. Sandoval wanted that deal last Spring when Giants were justifiably suspicious about Pablo’s physical condition. But when that offer came after the World Series, Sandoval countered by asking for a seven year deal.

Sandoval was in Boston yesterday where I am told there is a 90 percent chance that he will sign with the Red Sox. The other 10 percent goes to the Toronto Blue Jays.

So what happened with the Giants? I’m told they were never his first choice, which is why he asked for seven years — a request the Giants were highly unlikely to accommodate. If the Giants want to get back in the race, they will have to up the ante, which team officials are considering.

As for Toronto, the issue of taxes makes the Blue Jays a dark horse. But hey, at least they are in the race. I’m told the finish line is just days away.

I'm not a huge fan of Sandoval when compared to the alternative options out there, but if there's any truth to the rumor, then you have to feel pretty f***ing great to know there's still that much money available.

Even though he's younger than Martin, I'm understandably less comfortable with Sandoval long term. (Someone feel free to post that picture of Martin shirtless next to a picture of Sandoval shirtless if you're not sure as to why that is...)

Obama losing his mandate and state governorships going republican (Massachusetts) are actually hurting the Jays, as taxes will probably go lower in the US now, making Canada worse in relation.

Obama still has the veto pen and will be using it liberally.

No chance. With $18T in debt, taxes are more likely going up. And in addition, Obamacare premiums are about to soar..

H. Ramirez I like over Panda. He can play a couple more infield spots and won't age as bad as Panda, but will probably take 3-5m more a year to sign.

But the Red Sox will be pretty competitive with Sandoval and Lester both signed.

Yes. All that being said, California taxes and cost of living has to be at least equal and probably greater than Toronto. But if its between us and the Red Sox, then I'd assume Boston is lower overall.

I don't think the Jays are in on Sandoval at all though because I believe they dont want Lawrie off 3rd in the long-run. I'd rather bring in a Zobrist, Lowrie, or if all else fails miserably, Beckham.

The "taxes are higher" issue is a fabrication. Such a lie, I really hope that isnt what is preventing Panda from signing with us

Think he's getting ready for when the liberals take over and have to jack up taxes to support their spending.

Plus, neither Rotoworld or MLB Trade Rumors has even mentioned it. And who are these "two sources?"

I don't like Hanley that much. Bad attitude and injury-prone. Kinda like Lawrie. Hanley is a great player, but I'd rather have Pablo

Sandoval would be a terrible choice for this team.

That means he would take 3rd and shift Lawrie to 2nd.

While I like Lawrie at 2nd, I do not like Sandoval at 3B, especially with his body issue + the turf.

I'd rather use that money towards pitching.

~250 pound 3B that hasn't been much better then league average in each of the past 3 years, and whose value is highly dependent on maintaining his defensive skills....

Hopefully Boston gets him.

I'd rather have Hanley if we're going to throw money at a FA 3B, the SS flexibility is nice. I'd rather land one of Shields or Lester, though, if it's one or the other.

How is Hanley's defense at 3rd? I know he wasnt good as a SS.

Hanley is really injury prone and having both him and Reyes on the turf would not be a good idea.
