shortstop Verified Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 If we agreed to pay the buyout, do the Yankees take Reyes for free? I mean, pay him $66M for three years and give up nothing in return? ARod for Reyes & the Yanks paying a bunch of ARod's salary...I still wouldn't do it
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 lmao @ Reyes to DH. He's actually an above-average shortstop. He's not above average defensively. He's a negative fielder and that's a big source of the frustration for fans. What people don't seem to realize is that his poor fielding doesn't even come close to cancelling out the offensive advantage he has over an average shortstop. There's always going to be a certain mindset that would prefer to see a shortstop with absolutely no bat (say John McDonald) who makes all the plays over a good offensive shorstop who doesn't.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Reyes shouldn't be playing DH but he shouldn't be playing SS either. Looks like he will for foreseeable future. If Reyes maintains a decent bat we can live with it. Hopefully will have a full season from Brett Lawrie that hides Reyes defensively a little bit. Would anyone try Reyes 3B and Lawrie SS in Spring training just to see how it looks??? Reyes has the arm. The range is the problem. Lawrie has plenty of both. Would it make ANY sense to try??

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Half his games is way too much. If the trade off for a few DH starts is more healthy shortstop starts, it's a good trade off but it shouldn't be more than a day game after night game kind of thing. That's fine, but the poster I replied to said that Reyes should DH for all home games. Like you said, way too much. But even if Reyes is a below average shortstop, he's still more valuable in general.
StevieRay Verified Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Reyes provides WAR's. Yes, he may not be the most efficient WAR player per millions paid, but do you believe in AA and management to obtain more WAR value out of replacement using cap space relieved through getting rid of Reyes and his contract or just move him to a different position that actually diminishes his positional advantage at SS? I surely don't.

Also, while his arm is great I'm not sure how it would fare throwing from deep in the hole. Theres also the injury risk too. I think you just keep him where he has been successful at 3rd.
shortstop Verified Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 I can't believe this conversation is happening, WTF?! it's baseball off-season...i'm bored & wanted the 2015 season to start yesterday...that said, AA, if you don't get a legit LF, i'm not going to any home games

shortstop Verified Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 maybe you could play LF instead of SS? true shortstops don't change positions
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Author Posted November 14, 2014 Apparently Kendrick or Utley blocked a trade to Toronto?
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Author Posted November 14, 2014 Bastards...thread worthy? I was thinking about it but it hasn't been confirmed or anything. Apparently that person is the person that broke Valencia coming to Toronto.

kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Trust your source more than Wilner After Cito tried to get him fired Wilner only states what is good for the Jays. Since that isn't good news for the Jays he denies it. I could see a deal for Kendrick shaping up and him vetoing the trade
kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 I can't believe this conversation is happening, WTF?! Every off season some one posts moving players all over the field creating two holes to fill one . Having two play out of position makes no sense at all but we go thru this every year That said the advantage of not having a permanent DH allows guys like Reyes, Bautista, etc etc to rotate thru the DH spot when they tweak something or just to get a rest as long as you have a Brock Holt type guy on the bench. Moot point as it never happens. Teams just don't have that player and If Smoak hits he is a big improvement over EE at 1st B so Edwin will DH
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 lol................... It's easy to get Kendrick and Utley confused. They look and play so much alike.
JuniorFelix Verified Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 ^^ What does that even mean? You and context need to buddy up.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 ^^ What does that even mean? You and context need to buddy up. If I said "I heard either Bautista or Beltran has demanded a trade, not sure which one"....how in the hell could that be considered news or even credible speculation? They are two different players on two different teams. It shouldn't be hard to know which one if you have a credible source. That was my point. The "report" about someone blocking a trade was stupid and phrased in a way that deserved criticism, not to be taken seriously. I hate this time of year when it comes to Twitter. Everyone tries to get hits or likes or retweets by being a Rosenthal wannabee. It's annoying.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 This seems like a trade for 2016 rather than 2015. I like Gose more than others here and now the Jays have 1 CF option and Pompey may be better off with more seasoning at AAA. On the other hand, they got a decent prospect at a position of need who may contribute by mid season. Like many have said, this could be win-win for both teams, but time will tell. It's clear AA will have to get another OF now that the Gose/Pillar platoon is out the window. My preference is that he sign a FA OF or get a young player like Travis for Nolin or Happ as I do not want him dealing away the farm again. We'll see what happens, but it sure looks like AA is dealing and dealing, quite the contrast to last off season.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Funny how divisive Travis is in the prospect universe. Depending on whose report you read, he plays above/below average defense, he's an above/below average runner, he's an above/below average hitter. Unless I'm mistaken (it's happened before), some of the best 2nd basemen in the game weren't highly ranked as prospects. I don't think Pedroia, Altuve or Utley were that highly ranked. I don't even think Kinsler, Cano or Dozier were top prospects. As I said though, I've been wrong before...at least a couple of times.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Travis + Happ/Nolin for Kendrick?
