Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 I like Saunders to and would do that trade pretty easily as well. Happ was solid this year and his velocity ticked up, so what happens if the fastball velo drops a bit? That's really his only good pitch and he's been injury prone.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Disagree that pitching is a weakness. There's lots of good depth and we can afford to move some of it for Saunders. Sure it's not a priority but it's an easily filled need that imho we should jump on I don't mind if a surplus part can be moved for Saunders... but fill at least the 2B/3B first No one should expect the starting pitching to repeat 2014. Jays got lucky with both health and performance. If they are trying to win now, they need to upgrade.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Toronto is probably Martins final choice It's all about the money man

Sanchez - Is he ready to start at MLB Level? Norris - Hurt and Is he ready to start at MLB Level? Graveman - 0 SG so far Trade for Latos!!

I think there's indications that the starting staff should equal or do better than last year. We're so conditioned to injuries that we're not use to a starting staff that isn't injured. MB & RA - they're good for 400-450 IP unless the reaper comes up on their career. Hutch - came back from an injury to throw 180 IP of a K per inning. If he's luckier this year or there's better defense behind him, expect significant improvement on his numbers. Happ - increased velocity, most IP he's had in 5 years and coming up on a contract year. I think he should do better than last year Stroman - the wild card. He could be the ace, or could be the #5 guy limited to less than 150 innings depending on how his year goes and how carefully the Jays tread with him. I'm not saying that there isn't risk of injury, there always is. But in terms of limited resources if I was in charge of this team I would have to assume that those guys are good to go for 2015 and put everything into making sure they have an easy time with the best defense and offense possible backing them up. If those 5 guys tank, the Jays aren't making the playoffs anyways.

kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 AA doesn't say much about contract talks so this blurb is surprising . I take this as him letting the fan base down easy so when Melky signs with another team no one will be shocked. As usual AA is talking to everyone but he always does that to get a feel for the market and doesn't mean he will sign anyone. I really wonder how much money he actually has.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Melky not coming back.. Shocking.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Maybe that gives us more cash to spend on going a different direction or maybe not.....the plot thickens AA could be doing this as leverage

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Melky + keep pick 17th overall >> Sandoval We'd get a pick for Melky though... and signing a non-Melky free agent allows them to sign other free agents who declined QOs. This is good news in my book. Thanks for the great season Melky.

flafson Verified Member Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Did we get a home discount yet?
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Did we get a home discount yet? Melky has offered to play for Free for Toronto, but AA still hasn't signed him. Something about doing due dilligence
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Toronto is probably Martins final choice It's all about the money man both are correct.... Jays probably have the least money to offer so the jays would by default be his last choice.
nonamejays Verified Member Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 You just know that the cheap ass jays are going to sign two mediocre s*** players to replace Cabrera and Lind, even though they will claim to be in on everyone. There should have been no reason why they shouldn't keep Melky, he's too good a fit both in terms of personality and ability. Unfortunately Rogers has shown absolutely no inclination to field a winning team at all. I wish they would trade off everyone and build this team properly, rebuilding from the ground up, instead of plugging useless players like Goins and saying they are trying to compete. A competitive team would get some legit players to fill those roles.
