Steve Simmons is a ****, but he has a point. He just put it across in a ****ish way.

We know what Bautista said after the trade deadline. And it just showed last night, or rather, in the 2nd half of the season, just how meaningless trades are.

Oakland entered the post season with the worst 2nd half winning % in history after making huge trades.

KC did very little and got in.

Just shows that you can't make trades for the sake of it.

How is he owning the guy, when he's playing childish games, and not directly addressing the issue?

And is Jose (or, more likely, his marketing firm, posing as Jose), trying to out himself as the douchiest douche that ever did douche, when he, personally, ran that ridiculously embarrassing campaign through his twatter account for The Face of MLB?

Lol if someone actually said exactly that after I told them about about what happened on Twitter I probably would punch you in the face.

Just because the deadline deals didn't work out for the A's doesn't mean they don't ever work out. Beane made some very high risk deals and they backfired. Very few deadline deals are as risky as the ones Beane pulled off.

I have no problem at all with Bautista calling out managment on the decision to not add anyone at the deadline. Simmons looks like an idiot here.

Hey ... That means I don't hate you. Because, if I hated you and you tried to physically assault me, I'd dislocate your shoulder after shattering your elbow, and choke you out with your own arm, to add insult to literal injury. So it's like a compliment ... in a way.

But I'd much rather keep it to verbal jabs, than physical ones.

Shut up Moogy, you've been overindulged for way too long

What exactly is Simmons' point though? If he's insinuating that Joey Bats frustration carried over to the field, he's wrong. Bautista was a monster down the stretch (also why just call out bautista, this just screams of a moron sportswriter trying to get attention). If Simmons is saying that the Blue Jays didn't need any help at the deadline, again, he's wrong as the jays didnt come close to a playoff spot.

I don't really view being a troll as a bad thing. You are contrarian a majority of the time and excellent at getting under people's skin. I'm sorry I didn't appreciate your presence sooner.

Bautista yapped to the press about being disappointed that management didn't bring in help at the deadline. Meanwhile, other teams that were lesser contenders at the time, got no help, but simply shut their mouths, laced up their cleats and went out and won, while the Jays folded. Help may or may not have been necessary, but even if it was, you don't yap about it. Go out and do your job, and don't whine. Pretty straightforward. Rely on yourself and your teammates to get things done, and don't worry about things out of your control ... and don't bitch about it to the press.

I just don't buy that argument, sure bautista was vocal to the media about being disappointed with the lack of activity at the deadline but he wasn't the only one, why single him out? And Bautista, did exactly what he could do at that point: play fantastic baseball (has a 160 wRC+; 2.1 fWAR after the deadline). It doesn't make any difference to me, nor should it you, what the player says off the field if his performance on it, is stellar; this criticism of Bautista specifically is not warranted.

I also still stand pat on my stance that the jays should have made a move at the deadline. An acquistion of prado or headley could have made the difference in making the playoffs (heck, i would have been happy with meaningful games in the last week).

I think people are morons. All we hear is how players are boring, never say anything important, just recycle cliche after cliche... Then when a player actually gives an opinion that isn't tired and played out, people jump down his throat and say he should watch what he says.

f***ing idiots.

I honestly don't know many people who had a problem with what Bautista said. Everything he said was true and its not like he lied about anything. The only people who don't like it are these 65 year olds that call in to PTS who don't even know half the players names.

Because he's the big cheese of players on the team. Why yap at Janssen? He's not coming back. He's not a leader, or supposed to be a leader.

Of course it is. When the leader of your team, when you're in the middle of a playoff race (and a winning streak, at that), calls out management ... and then the team goes in the shitter ... it's bad news.

This is a flawed argument; you're assuming cause and effect.. perhaps, as a "leader", jose was speaking on behalf of the clubhouse. I don't quite understand where you are going with this..

You initially said the player/team should just do their job and focusing on winning, well... if we are basing out criteria on that, Bautista's play was more than sufficient as an individual but when the team he is on is carrying up-to 3-4 black holes in the line up, there is only so much he can do. Stop basing your argument off arbitrary labels simply to attempt to justify your position.

I'm pretty sure that reasonable people, who have the judgment and emotional maturity beyond that of a toddler, can understand the difference between generic cliched statements, statements that are a little more thoughtful and insightful, and statements that call out your employer like a petulant preschooler who didn't get his Jake and the Neverland Pirates boat for Xmas.

We want the middle statements ... not the extremes on the ends.

Just out of curiosity, if you were in Bautista's shoes as the "leader" of the ball club, what would your response to such questions about the deadline be?

I dunno and the Royals did get some players even though it wasn't right at the deadline. They acquired Kratz who according to people here is worth 10 WAR and they got Frasor, Downs and Willingham.
