Art Vandelay Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Is that even possible? How much of it comes down to the Argonauts playing?
vdartanian Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Really??? f*** the Argonauts. You have the Blue Jays with a 130M+ payroll and a franchise value off 600M, and the Argonauts who are not owned by Rogers with a 5M payroll and a franchise value of maybe 20M? Rogers maybe takes in a 1M/year from leasing the stadium to the Argo's Where the f*** is this teams priorities?
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 i just love how all of these threads turn into "fuk argos." absolutely no respect for the only winning team in toronto!

comeon sense Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 "The Players are Pushing Ownership" LOL,that sounds funny. I,m sure the ownership is very frightened. The Argos should have been playing at their own stadium long ago,but whatever.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 This is akin to the Leafs making concessions for the Toronto f***ing Rock. Kick the Argo's out already.

If Rogers was to put in grass and make the RC inhospitable to football, they would be breaking that contract and they'd potentially be liable for quite a bit of damages.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Anyways, MLSE is pumping ~$100 million into BMO and it sounds like they want the Argos to come there. It could happen very soon. Remember that when Rogers agreed to the lease with the Argos there was a lot of talk about the Argos leaving as soon as possible, not necessarily waiting until 2018. http://www.thestar.com/sports/tfc/2014/09/23/toronto_fc_and_mlse_begin_bmo_field_renovation.html "We’ve always hoped that the CFL comes. It’s a natural for them. It’s a great solution for them size-wise. They’ll end up with 26,000 to 27,000 seats,” said Bob Hunter, MLSE’s chief facilities officer. Hunter says the CFL portion of the renovation can be done any time after the initial two stages are complete. Hunter also suggested the renovated stadium could also play host to an NHL Winter Classic. MLSE spokesman Dave Haggith says the company is still optimistic about reaching a deal with the Argos on playing at BMO Field, but said talks about buying the team aren’t part of the equation. “The ownership question isn’t on the radar right now,” said Haggith. Argonauts president Chris Rudge is also hopeful the team will eventually play at BMO Field. “Mr. Braley has been talking to MLSE. I believe it will happen, but I’ll be a lot happier when there’s something concrete,” said Rudge."

flafson Verified Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 So just because some people prefer baseball over CFL then it should be f*** the Argos? You people are a disgrace. I say, f*** the Blue Jays.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Even with an all dirt infield can't the Argos still play on it? Oakland does this and Miami used to when they played at the NFL stadium.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Argos likely moving to BMO Field which is a great move for the organization. I'm sure once BMO Field is ready for football games, the Argos and Blue Jays will both agree to terminate the lease agreement.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 28, 2014 Author Posted September 28, 2014 I thought this was finished and they ruled it out. http://sports.nationalpost.com/2014/09/23/can-mlse-and-a-renovated-bmo-field-save-the-toronto-argos/
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 A little too much whining for me. Sounds like excuse-making, just like the comments after the team didn't make any additions at the deadline.

Sounds like excuse-making, just like the comments after the team didn't make any additions at the deadline. Yeah but it's a real issue. Many of us have been pushing for a dirt infield (as a secondary/temporary alternative to grass) for years.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 I thought this was finished and they ruled it out. They are adding seats to BMO, so they'd be able to put a football field there. The TFC are awful and a joke of a franchise. I could see MLSE buying the Argos for 50 cents on the dollar and they have the prefect venue for the Argos to have success. Put the Argos in a beautiful stadium like BMO Field by the lake with 26,000-27,000 capacity and if the Argos start winning I'm sure they could have much better attendance numbers at BMO Field vs. the RC. Also, MLSE has money, so if they want to sign a big name retired or washed up NFL vet to sell more tickets and jerseys, I'm sure they'd do it. The CFL as a league is also on the upswing, so this is a perfect buy low for MLSE.

Many of us have been pushing for a dirt infield (as a secondary/temporary alternative to grass) for years. It would be a good thing no doubt. However, as I said, a bit too much whining coming out of the players. Lind mouthing off the other day. Bautista and Janssen at the deadline as well.

The Argos lose money every year and have a terrible situation with no stadium. No one is going to pay money for that.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 MLSE probably wouldn't buy the Argos for literally 50 cents. The Argos lose money every year and have a terrible situation with no stadium. No one is going to pay money for that. The new CFL TV contract and collective bargaining agreement makes it real hard for teams to lose money. The TV contract covers 80% of the salary cap. The problem the Argos have is the cost of Rogers and the low fan base. You move them to an outdoor stadium that would be a better atmosphere and you save dollars and increase revenue from getting more fans out. My Riders are worth about 100 mil....the Argos playing at BMO with some owners that make a concerted effort to actually market the team would at least break even.
