burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 The new CFL TV contract and collective bargaining agreement makes it real hard for teams to lose money. The TV contract covers 80% of the salary cap. The problem the Argos have is the cost of Rogers and the low fan base. You move them to an outdoor stadium that would be a better atmosphere and you save dollars and increase revenue from getting more fans out. My Riders are worth about 100 mil....the Argos playing at BMO with some owners that make a concerted effort to actually market the team would at least break even. Thats the thing though..No reasonable businessman or business is going to buy that team even for a penny because the stadium situation is so cloudy and even if they do get a stadium they "might" break even. Way too risky given the circumstances.

I'm positive that MLSE will buy the Argo's soon enough

And he may still get the axe. I really look forward to again having a 28th ranked farm with no money like we had in the Retardi days
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Why are you still on this forum. Because I'm a Jays fan? I'm not a sunshine-pumper and never will be, though, so get used to it.

Ehh Verified Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I assure you, you can find me there too what has to go wrong in your life to become a fan of the CFL?

Well yes, you'd have to work out the stadium issues before acquiring the franchise, but a deal to play at BMO field is their for the taking, which would be good for the Argos and the Jays.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 what has to go wrong in your life to become a fan of the CFL? CFL is an exciting affordable brand of entertainment, with the exception of last week's rider game of course.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 So just because some people prefer baseball over CFL then it should be f*** the Argos? You people are a disgrace. I say, f*** the Blue Jays. It really goes both ways actually, football, and fans of other sports are worse as they often ridicule anyone who brings up MLB on their boards...and MLB is the top baseball league in the world unlike the CFL which isn't the top league it that sport. Anyway, just sayin' it goes both ways.

Braley would probably give away the team since they are just losing him money every year. MLSE won't buy the Argos unless it came with an NFL franchise. MLSE won't buy a team unless they see a reasonable chance to make money, which the Argos are not doing.
GNick49 Verified Member Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Per Jose Bautista on interview just on radio "Everyone is asking for it" They already have dirt around the bases. Can't see it being major problem to Argos to put dirt between 1b-2b and 2b-3b. That is where most of travel is. How do they cover up the dirt now for football games?

For sure but it just annoys me the amount of people here that would kick the Argos from Toronto just because someone can't figure out how to have both grass and football (once every 2 weeks during season) TV ratings suggest you have more people who watch the Argos than you do the Blue Jays.

The TV ratings I think is misleading. Football will always have some of the highest ratings because the sport is only played once a week. Argos ratings may be higher but the Blue Jays TV deal is far more valuable since they play every day and will post strong ratings for 5 to 6 days a week.
