SAAviour Verified Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I'm curious if this will be unanimous. I feel he should be fired the day the season ends. And I know you're all going to say fire AA and beeston...but let's just vote on Gibbons in this thread.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted September 18, 2014 Author Posted September 18, 2014 Who cares? I'd add that to the poll, but pretty sure it would get 100% of the vote....though I do care at this point cause I'm now counting down to the offseason.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 He has been very good with platoons and bullpen management this year. Something tells me that giving starts to Pillar day after day was not his call, regardless of that, this two-week "slump" shouldn't negate an otherwise well-managed season for the most part.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Who cares? I like Gibby, he's funny and doesn't make a lot of the stupid decisions a guy like Kirk Gibson or Matt Williams would make. Think Gibby would hit Bryce Harper 6th behind studs like Ian Desmond, Asdrubal Cabrera or Wilson Ramos? Think Gibby would call for Bryce to bunt? Managers largely don't matter but as a human being who does a decent job and clearly enjoys managing, I don't want to see him become the scapegoat for stupid fans who don't know any better.
baubau Verified Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 How would replacing Gibby make this a better team? Replacing AA/Beaston would but Gibby? He's certainly made a questionable moves but he is not the reason we have a .500 club on the field.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted September 18, 2014 Author Posted September 18, 2014 Until the last two weeks I liked his decisions, but I'm starting to wonder about the behind the scenes stuff in the clubhouse. I feel he has had his chances now, time to move on.

So ,what your saying is that AA is also managing the team? if thats the case, its no wonder things are the way they are.
comeon sense Verified Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Injuries have killed this team for years. The first rash was the pitching staff one year, and now its hitters, and defenders.Cant recall all of the seasons, and what happened to whoever. We stay healthy, this is not even up for debate-IMO.
Brenner Verified Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I don't have any particular problems with the way Gibby manages and I have no faith in the organization being able to find someone better.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 So ,what your saying is that AA is also managing the team? if thats the case, its no wonder things are the way they are. we all know AA wants to see if pillar can hit well enough so he doesn't have to blow cash on melky. there's no way gibby would start pillar like this constantly, it makes no sense

Green with envy over Baltimore...Duquette gets the players, and Showalter calls the shots...or at least, thats my impression.
comeon sense Verified Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I was on the fence, but before we started getting hurt,we were slumping badly, and i think Gibby lost the players after the trade deadline thing, and hasn,t gotten them back. They just dont seem to be playing for him,or playing with any fire, even with all the injuries. Tough call.
frizzer1 Verified Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I have no problems with the way he's managed...and I'm fine with him staying as long as he never gives an interview again....the man has absolutely nothing to say..

Rogers should have a policy that applies retroactively to Anthopoulos of giving Blue Jays general managers 5 years to produce a playoff team. If they cannot do so within that 5 year window, then they are ceremoniously replaced. Edited September 18, 2014 by abola2121
nextyear Verified Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I don't think Gibbons comes close to matching managers like Joe Maddon. However, reading Joe Maddon's life story on Wikipedia Joe Maddon seems to have succeeded through pure perseverance - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Maddon. So there is hope for Gibbons; if he manages the Blue Jays long enough he might become a decent manager. I voted to keep Gibbons even though I don't think he is currently a top notch manager.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 It's not Gibbons fault the team hasn't been good enough, but too many give him a pass by convincing themselves that his bad moves are the result of AA forcing him to make these moves. I have had problems with him since he brought in Jenkins in relief of Morrow early in the season against the Red Sox in the 2nd inning and later on said it made no sense to bring in one of his best relievers to get out of the jam. Anyway, no big deal.

eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Beeston must have naked pics of some high ranking guy on the Rogers BOD. Two seasons of horrible baseball after a huge spike in payroll and nobody gets canned? I

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 How about AA getting canned? Nah. Unless Beeston goes too. I don't trust him to hire the next guy. I expect everyone will get fired after 2015.

Slot Machine Verified Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Gibby has done a pretty good job considering 5-10 guys on the 25 man are garbage.
Vincent Verified Member Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Firing Gibbons would be just the dumbest thing imaginable. In no way, shape, or form is this season on Gibbons.
