BTS Community Moderator Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 It's PETA. Nobody should care.
Vincent Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 More distraction from the miserable season. Don't care (who cares). Buehrle summed it up perfectly. "I think this is pretty dumb that we bring these tigers and people are sitting there saying animal abuse and all this other crap. … Some people think it’s cool and some people just want to mouth off and say stupid stuff. It doesn’t bother me at all."
Gorlak Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 The last part about the jays bad vegetarian selection made me laugh.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 What a joke. People can't even pet a larger version of a cat without getting called for abuse.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I'm more worried that Stroman doesn't seem to know the difference between a tiger and a lion.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I don't think the Jays themselves did anything wrong but the fact that the zoo loans out animals for this sort of thing is pretty suspect. It doesn't speak much to their credibility as a zoo. PETA isn't very credible themselves but there may be some substance to their issues. The photos are really cool but this struck me a highly suspect from the start. That being said, right or wrong, PETA should just leave the Jays out of this. The Jays didn't endorse the zoo in any way. It was a private meeting that some of the players just happened to share on social media.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Jays statement should have been "The Jays care about animal safety. When it came to beating the cat with a bat we had Ryan Goins doing the swinging...that's how much we love animals"

They probably have legitimate issues with the zoo, but this doesn't have anything to do with the Blue Jays. I can't think of an organization that's better than PETA at shooting itself in the foot.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 then they come up with quotes like; “Once they get bigger and can no longer be used for public interactions, they are usually cast off and sent to seedy roadside zoos or other substandard facilities or negligently kept as dangerous ‘pets’ by private owners who cannot fulfill even their most basic needs,” she wrote. “Big cats may even be killed in order to sell their meat, skins, organs, and other body parts.” Does anyone believe that this happens here from legit zoo's? If it does than I'm totally in the dark... but I doubt that's the case.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 mmm... Never tried tiger before.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 This is the perfect opportunity to get out of Reyes' contract. Beeston, do the right thing and suspend him for life. start the rumour on twitter that he called the Lion "Maricon"

I know some pretty hardcore vegan animal rights activists who absolutely loathe PETA for just this reason. It seems like all they care about is creating a stink not actually helping the cause.

PETA can seriously go f*** themselves. lol

BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 What a joke. People can't even pet a larger version of a cat without getting called for abuse. Pretty soon you won't be able to even look at an animal with PETA going nuts. What is with those people? They take a fine concept but basically torpedo it by going right off the deep end.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Dude, that brought me to tears, bookmarked. Thanks, sooo much. You would have to be a robot not to get teary eyed watching that.
