With only half a month to go in the season, I'd be interested to know who everyone picks for MVP in their respective leagues. Off the top of my head, here are some candidates who will probably get some votes, feel free to add anyone you think deserves consideration.

AL candidates:

Mike Trout

Jose Abreu

Josh Donaldson

Felix Hernandez

Robinson Cano

Jose Altruve

Victor Martinez?

NL candidates:

Ginacarlo Stanton

Klayton Kershaw

Justin Upton

Andrew McCutchen

Jonathon Lucroy?

Yasiel Puig?

Honestly, I've been so impressed with Jose Abreu this year, I'd love to see him win it, but alas, being on a losing team will not net him the MVP. I think Mike Trout gets the nod this year especially after the snub's from years past

MVP in the NL is Kershaw in my books.

Mike Trout doesn't think baseball is hard.

Trout

Brantley

Gordon

Donaldson

Bautista

Lucroy

Martin

Stanton

Kershaw

Rendon

Your lists are funny because they appear to be mostly ordered by WAR except in AL you seemed to skip a few to give Bautista the 5th spot (because he's a Blue Jay) and in the NL you seemed to inject Martin in there (because he's CDN).

I would give Martin MVP before I gave Lucroy MVP lol

Too big a playing time gap. Lucroy has 40 games and 180 PA on Martin, and it's given him the edge in overall value.

That would be the deciding factor I suppose but Kershaw has it on lock. Numbers are way to sexy and if they did it for Verlander they will do it for him. I don't think the Pirates even sniff meaningful baseball without Martin.

Yeah, Kershaw is going to win it in a landslide IMO.

Trout and Stanton. Kershaw shouldn't be allowed to get the MVP, because he is not an everyday player, and only pitches every 5 days. Even if Stanton doesn't get Miami to the playoffs, he's the best player in the NL right now.

As for Trout.. need we say more? Leads in RBIs, Runs scored, total bases, near the top in 2B and 3B, top 5 in HRs, top in runs created, XBH, and WAR. And he's helping the Angels get to the postseason.

And at the catching position that difference in playing time is very significant.

IF he were a position player. More likely the voters will pick Stanton.

Oh my lord stop saying words I hate you.

Surprised Anthony Rendon doesn't get some love..along with playing a decent 2B and 3B, he leads the league in runs scored. And he's leading Washington to the postseason as well..

Yup

The trick I'm quickly learning is to not really give a f***. It's just a message board comprised of maybe a dozen respectable human beings. And then one psychotic nut job.

Oh my lord stop saying words I hate you.

Look, pitchers rarely win the MVP. Only Justin Verlander (who pitched a full season and wasn't on the DL to start the season like Kershaw), Dennis Eckersley and Roger Clemens have won MVPs as pitchers in the past 30 years. Most of the time, voters prefer players that play everyday.

If Kershaw had pitched the full season like Verlander did, he'd be a runaway favorite.

It will be interesting to see how many votes Russell Martin gets...

One Pirates homer might give him a 3rd place vote, 2nd at the most. His skillset is very much undervalued around the league. Ditto for Lucroy.

He should get some if he gets the Pirates to the postseason, although he is unlikely to win MVP. It's pretty much between Stanton and Rendon.
