What do you guys think?

He was a closer in college and he has posted a 12.95 K/9, 2.55 xFIP and 1.1 WAR this season. His walk rate is a bit high at 4.81 BB/9, though if he struggled with control in the first half and in the second half of the season his BB/9 rates have been in line with his career averages. I think Cecil has the stuff and makeup to be an elite closer. Look at some lefties like McGee and Doolittle this season. Even BJ Ryan made a successful transition from a 7th-8th guy to a closer. Screw Casey Janssen and Sergio Santos. Cecil for closer in 2015.

Doolittle and McGee hardly walk anyone and both throw harder than Cecil, not great comparisons.

I have a bad feeling the pen will be in trouble next year. Itll be filled like usual AAAA guys via wavier claims or minor league FA and the BS about how there isn't anyone out there at the price we want to pay. I'd say bring Morrow back at a reduced salary if he's interested and seeing if he'll at least get a chance to close unless someone beats him out. It seems like Cecil is probably going to be it. I can't see them spending a good chunk of cash on a closer or giving up pieces they dont' have for one. See if Morrow will come back, guarantee him his buyout and some extra ($2-3M more maybe?), rework the deal he has now if he's interested, tell him they want him to be in the pen to potentially close and if someone else is brought in he can fight for a starting role. Worse case he says no, he leaves, the end. Cecil is probably the best internal option since Sanchez will/should be a starter next year but they might decide to keep him there out of desperation for at least one year. I really don't want to see too many of the starting prospects in relief roles next year simply because AA can't figure out how to bring guys in or evaluate bullpen arms.

I know it's not popular, but I'd like to see Stroman as the closer. It would open a spot for Norris in the rotation, minus a trade.

He profiles better as a closer than a starter.

lol yes lets stick our best pitcher in the entire organization to a limited position, where he can play 2-3 times a week for a inning at a time

He's not the best pitcher in the organization. That's Norris.

I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm talking to a bunch of "Brandon Morrow is the best Jays pitcher" crowd from a couple of years ago.

Boy did I laugh when people were outing themselves with that.

Jaysblue finally figuring out what a gif is has to be one of the worst events in the history of the board.

John Franco didn't throw hard and had his fair share of walks.

I'd prefer to see the Jays spend a bit of money and go after Jason Motte in the off season. Maybe an off season of rest, after coming back from TJS would allow him to get back closer to what he was than this year.

I can't see Motte costing much more than what Janssen got this year.
