Since the board seems dead I figured I'd post something?

.353 against RHP pick up the option, trade him or keep him and try to find a better platoon partner?

1. Andrew McCutchen 169 wRC+

2. Adam Lind 166 wRC+

3. Jose Abreu 166 wRC+

holy s***

I figured he'd be better this year but you've taken the words out of my mouth there. Damn!

Keep him. Obvious decision IMO.

My vote would be pick up the option and unless a good deal comes along keep him next year and see if he can continue his tear against RHP. See who we can stick in for lefties if AA finds someone who isn't a waste of a roster spot after a few games.

He's been a very good asset after management gave up on him as an everyday player. The guy mashes RHP. If you buy him out, you're then tasked with replacing his 1-2 WAR for less of an investment than 1 year and $6.5 million. This isn't an easy thing to do.

Even better since he's been hitting the AL East well too. Well, minus NY

Like has been said in the other 2 conversations already going on about him ... picking up Lind's option is actually committing to 3 different people. And helping to ruin your bench (which is needed because of oft-injured guys like Lawrie and Reyes)

Platoon-only, oft-injured with a chronic health concern, DH-only guys are not a priority. Or shouldn't be on a winning team.

Oh, and Abreu has 353 ABs v. RHP, whilst Lind has 184.

If I was GM I wouldn't pick up his option. Very streaky, injured every year, platoon only 1B is not what this teams needs going forward. I would take that 5 mill or whatever he makes next year and add that to acquiring FA starting pitching.

Lind is an average at best, injury prone player during his career who has above average platoon splits in a single year under a small sample size. Lets keep some perspective here.

But the power? He only has 4 homeruns. Singles for days

I don't know if this works the same way (it probably does) but his HR/FB% is way below his career average, currently at 6.6%, he should be expected to bounce back to career averages.

Lind has a 127 wRC+ in more than 2750 PA vs. RHP.

Because the market for a guy who plays half the year, but not at all in the field, and makes $7.5M is robust.

Lind plays plenty of first and injuries are difficult to predict. Most of his time lost was due to a freak fracture injury.

Actually for Lind injuries are easily predictable because he has CHRONIC back issues. This is a huge red flag and by no surprise he has been on the DL every year with back problems since his silver slugger year. This team has to invest in players that actually contribute to wins. Wins don't come from players like Adam Lind. We have so many other holes. Put that 7.5 into Melky, starting pitching, a catcher, an everyday 2nd baseman

I just looked up his 2015 salary and his option is for 7.5 million. There is no way I would sign a injury prone, platoon bat that can only play average first base defensively for that kind of dough.

A better defensive 1B who is more split neutral and can stay healthy would be better than keeping Lind.

It sure would. However, finding this 1B is the key. Not to mention how much it would co$t to acquire such a player.

This FO couldn't plug the 2B hole last off season and barely improved the C position yet some think it's capable of plugging the existing holes plus a newly-created one.

Don't hold your breath.

Sounds great any suggestions?

The Jays would have a lot of trouble finding a SS as good as Reyes next season, but that doesn't mean you don't dump his salary and try to allocate the resources better if an opportunity came up. Same with Lind.

If the payroll was going to increase, then fine, hold on to Lind and try to find upgrades elsewhere. However, that's probably not going to happen, so money has to be spent more wisely.

Russell Martin is a FA correct?

This would be my plan.

Take that 7.5 mill from Lind and make it a priority to sign Russell Martin. Thole is DFA'd and Navarro becomes the DH and backup catcher.

They didn't go after Martin 2 years ago when they made the flashy moves and had Arencibia. I think they view Navarro as their everyday C so I don't see this FO making these types of moves.

I'm often wrong though, so there's still hope.
