Vincent Verified Member Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 You either clearly don't live in the city or never go outside your house. Nothing aside from the sports franchises is remotely true. And yeah, big deal we get a lot of traffic lol. It's all true buddy. Don't act like it's not just because it suits you.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Have you ever stepped foot on the TTC lol All the time. It might not be world class but I don't see what there is to complain.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 29, 2014 Author Posted August 29, 2014 All the time. It might not be world class but I don't see what there is to complain. GTA traffic is easily the worst I've experienced anywhere in North America.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 (edited) GTA traffic is easily the worst I've experienced anywhere in North America. There is a lot of traffic, I agree with that, but it's one of the busiest cities in North America as well, I'm sure New York gets a lot of traffic too. Nobody likes traffic, but how is that the city's fault? Edited August 29, 2014 by Orgfiller
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 All the time. It might not be world class but I don't see what there is to complain. The bus schedules are approximated guidelines with 10 minute error bars, there are signal problems causing half hour delays every day at rush hour, the drivers are just awful people, smells like piss, some of the longest/busiest stretches in the city have one bus that runs every 20 minute (Bond Park complaint), there's construction at every friggin station for months on end that stretches 2-3 months past its ETA, pretty sure it's one of the most expensive ones which is hilarious considering the quality, and in all, delivers one of the worst commute times in North America. To top it all off, a rain storm can shut down the entire f***ing system. My lord is the TTC awful.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 A bit further outside than what you're thinking... Why exactly are we comparing the TTC to minor systems?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Why exactly are we comparing the TTC to minor systems? Just be glad that you don't know what I'm talking about. Regardless, my point stands, Toronto is nowhere close to being considered a s*** hole.

Toronto definitely isn't a s*** hole, just having experienced other major transit systems I'm fairly confident the TTC is a piece of s***.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Ok, the crime rates are really high in St. Louis, didn't realize that it was so bad. Yeah I told one of my friends that I wanted to go to South Africa, and she told me look at how dangerous it is so I typed out the most dangerous cities in the world on Google, and St. Louis appeared in the Top 50 lol.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 GTA traffic is easily the worst I've experienced anywhere in North America. The 401 is a s*** storm. That highway is always busy no matter what time of day. Pain in the ass.

Nobody likes traffic, but how is that the city's fault? If you lived in NYC, there is no need to own a car. London traffic I heard is pretty bad. Also, traffic in LA I heard is the worst. Also imagine Tokyo.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Every other city in Canada I've been to is better than Toronto. And I've been to LA, it's better. I've been to Texas (Austin), it's better. And a bunch of other US Cities. The only place I would say is worse than Toronto that I've been to is Portland, Oregon... because it's boring as f***. There are some shitholes in Canada. Who would want to live in some east coast towns, or places in BC where crime rates are through the roof? I prefer Montreal to Toronto (my opinion) and I heard Vancouver was a beautiful city as well (never been) though from what I've heard it sounds better than Toronto. Other places like Hamilton, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary - I'm sure Toronto is a lot better.

London has the ridiculous subway system though, as does New York, and trains in Europe are some of the best in the world, though I don't know how the UK ranks there.

The TTC is a joke. For a major city, there should be more than just two subway lines. It's crazy and makes it so difficult to get across the city. The best public transit I've seen was in Melbourne and Sydney.

I don't really like Montreal all that much, out of places I've visited in the province of Quebec, Quebec City is much better. Ottawa outside Parliament Hill (and the general surrounding area) is an absolute shithole. I haven't been to Calgary myself, but I've heard it's a rather boring city.

I want to travel to Japan someday and watch a bunch of baseball games. Road trip with Gibbers! London's Tube system is amazing, and the subway system in NYC might look dirty and in the summer its like a sauna though it takes you where you need to go and is very reliable. Getting around Europe is easy - trains take you everywhere!

Everytime I step onto the TTC, I hear over the PA system that there is a delay at such and such station due to signal issues and shuttle buses are on route lol. It's a joke transit system and I'd agree one of the worst. More subway lines are needed and they need to gut the streetcars on Dundas Street and Bathurst since they cause so much congestion. They f***ed up St. Clair pretty good as well. It's awful.

Washington is very underrated in my brief experience. New York is New York, obviously. Chicago was nice.

In my few days there the only two things I didn't like about it was that it was incredibly expensive, and there were tons of homeless people there (end of August). Their subway system was quite good (honor system, really?), and my brother and I even got in a Canadians game. It was the most unorganized baseball game I had ever seen. Canadians throwing balls all over the field. Philly's public transit (SETPA) is not so hot. They have trains, trolleys, and buses and they get to pretty much every area, but they are almost never on time. Most of the stations are falling apart, and you have to use gold doubloons as form of payment. I waited for 25 minutes in the hood for a trolley a couple weeks ago.

I only took the subway in Philly to Citizens Bank Park for the Phillies game. It wasn't anything special, though it was quick and they had express trains which was very convenient as well. The TTC trains are definitely a lot nicer than the ones in Philly, and I'd even say they are much nicer than the ones in NYC, Chicago etc. TTC really needs to step up there services.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Why is Toronto a s***-hole? Well I'm glad you asked, let me answer that for you: - It stinks. - It's dirty and polluted. - People are not friendly (keep-to-yourself culture). - People live to work. - People are selfish douchebags. - Mayor is an incompetent crack-head. - Lake is a toxic swamp. - One of the worst cities for traffic in the world. - Transit system is an absolute joke. - Sports franchises are all hopeless. - Women would rather eat poutine than entertain their sexuality. - The city is dead after 2:00 AM. The only good thing about Toronto is not being in it. This screams of someone who NEVER gets laid. - It stinks. - no it doesn't. Except around sewage treatment plants which every large metropolitan area has - It's dirty and polluted. - not really, unless you consider the out of control dogshit problem, again not something Toronto faces in isolation. - People are not friendly (keep-to-yourself culture). True, that one is correct, but if you are outgoing and friendly, 9 times out of 10 you will get a good response. And by that I don't mean hitting up randoms at a bar or on the TTC, which is what I think you're referring to. - People live to work. - true, that one sucks - People are selfish douchebags. - only in Woodbridge. - Mayor is an incompetent crack-head. - Mayor is awesome and I'm probably going to vote for him again, 90% of it is out of irony and to piss people off, and the other 10% is he actually gets us car-driving, house-owning, racoon-hating people. - Lake is a toxic swamp. - it's one of the cleanest you can get near a metropolitan area. I have swam at the Rouge beach for years without a problem. Beuatiful beach with a clean body of water. This point in particular screams of whiny ignorance - One of the worst cities for traffic in the world. 100% true, because people take it up the ass from their employer all the time. I work at home. If you're not a doctor or construction worker or someone else that NEEDS to be on location to do a job, you should be at home too. Pencil pushers and techies should not be commuting. - Transit system is an absolute joke. Compared to Paris or Rome, the reach of the subways suck, but the cleanliness and comfort of them are miles better in Toronto. Just pray you don't get your hand caught in a subway in Rome. It WILL be chopped off. - Sports franchises are all hopeless. up until last year Seattle had it way worse (losing teams and they lost the Sonics). Things can always happen to turn it around. - Women would rather eat poutine than entertain their sexuality. - see my first sentence above. I have no issues with women. - The city is dead after 2:00 AM. - i'm usually in bed or on the internet...don't care.

Toronto isn't as bad unless you get close to the lake; garbage sewage plants near the Ontario Food Terminal. I would never swim in Lake Ontario. Would rather swim up north on a small lake in Muskoka. People are friendly - obviously your not going to talk to people on the TTC when people are either in a hurry, rush, heading to work etc. GO Train is likely a better place to start up a conversation. I hate Woodbridge with a passion. All the people that live there are stuck up and the place just sucks. And this is coming from an Italian! Rob Ford has actually done a good job as mayor for this city. Aside from his private life, he's done a solid job. I'm sure there are many more politicians who do much worse than Rob Ford has done. Toronto traffic is awful. The 401 is the most congested highway in North America. And all the construction going on pisses me off. Everywhere you turn, there's construction. The TTC trains are first class, though they need to expand big time. A major city like Toronto can't just depend on two subway lines. Raptors look like they are on the rise. And the Argos have played meaningful games every year! I prefer the women in Montreal better than Toronto. They are more classier. But yeah, couldn't care. It's not like every time I go out downtown I'm looking to get laid. The city is usually dead after 2 AM. Last call should be later. In Spain, people are partying until 4-5 AM, even later. Toronto is more of a weekend town. It's usually pretty dead during the week. In Europe, it's a lot more relaxed. I even found that in Australia.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 The 401 is a s*** storm. That highway is always busy no matter what time of day. Pain in the ass. I played slow pitch in North York, and taking the 401 TOWARDS Toronto at like 7pm is packed. A lot of times your only other option is the 407. My current boss lives in Newmarket and has worked jobs from Burlington, Kitchener to Peterborough in a few weeks and if he wants to ever see his wife, he has no choice but to rack up the 407 bills. Apparently he's spent over a thousand bucks in a month just to ride that horrid money pit. The GTA sucks.

Using it on a regular basis though would be expensive, even with the transponder. It's definitely a huge expense I would imagine.
