Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2014 Author Posted August 28, 2014 I'd happily take him at 4M with plans to be an 8th inning guy with a shot at closing. Kind of what Delabar was/was expected to be. 4M one-inning guy? I pass!!

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 The thing is he won't come back for that much and certainly not with Toronto. If he was smart he goes to the NL in a pitcher's park much like what JJ did but with hopefully better results. Yep. Didn't really matter which league/park Johnson was scheduled to pitch in THIS year.

kgm1 Verified Member Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 I feel like Brandon Morrow would be an awesome reliever. But not at $10m. I agree but it won't be with the Jays.

This is also another reason why no FA pitchers want to pitch here.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Somehow if Morrow puts up a couple of good frames (maybe even a start or two) I could see AA panic and pick up the option. Maybe I'm just being really cynical and thinking AA does something stupid with money again. I wouldn't mind him back at a cheaper salary like some have mentioned, low base, incentives (which AA seems to never do) and if he stays healthy it's a win whether it's in the pen or rotation. He'll probably take his buyout and see if anyone will give him a guaranteed deal elsewhere for more. I would find it hard to think that any team gives him a deal for more than the minimum after the disaster he's been with one injury after another. It's sad and sucks since he was looking very good a few years ago and then BAM!

Look at what Josh Johnson got..I know JJ was a lot better pitcher than Morrow but the point remains that there will always be a team looking to get a steal on a buy low contract.

Given what mediocre but healthy starters are going for these days (10-13M per season), taking a cheaper gamble on an unhealthy but higher end starter looks appealing to some teams.
