burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Just announced on Twitter he is going to Buffalo. Big step up for a position player. Not sure I agree with the move.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Author Posted August 20, 2014 They'll do anything to take eyes off the depressing big league club. Would be sad if true.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Why not? Not really any red flags in his time at AA.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Author Posted August 20, 2014 Why not? Not really any red flags in his time at AA. I prefer to leave him in AA for the rest of the season then AAA next year. I don't mind pitching moving fast through the system but I'm not sure what 200 ABs do for a switch hitter in AA. Edit: Less than 150 ABs
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 lol at this rate, in another month Pompey will be our solution for a starter next year...
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 lol at this rate, in another month Pompey will be our solution for a starter next year... I can actually see this. "He finished the season in left last year, and did a really nice job for us, so right now he has to be considered the incumbent".
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Is he on the 40-man? Rule 5 eligible.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 it was obvious when Norris was promoted, he wouldn't be too far behind
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 In regards to the promotion I don't think it's a big deal. Not many games left in the minor league season anyways - maybe he could help out Buffalos playoff push. He should be up in September though so that should be fun to watch. Probably needed there too, since Gose will probably be right back up with us when the rosters expand.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Hmmmm.. I hope this doesn't mean they're not too serious in extending Melky. Sign Melky and start Pompey in CF. Pompey Reyes Melky Bautista EE Good God..
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 If Mookie Betts can be aggressively promoted in the Red Sox system because he plays well, so can Pompey. I see no problem in this, especially with him doing well in AA. He's gotta be an upgrade over Mastro in AAA..
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 If he's truly ready a Gose/Pompey platoon would be cool.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I see a problem with this, why rush him? But what the f*** do I know.
Caper Verified Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Just announced on Twitter he is going to Buffalo. Big step up for a position player. Not sure I agree with the move. Why? Who cares if he struggles for a bit.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I see a problem with this, why rush him? But what the f*** do I know. No sense leaving him in AA if he's not being challenged. If he can dominate AA pitchers, he deserves the promotion. And with Rasmus likely gone next season, it's good to see we have our top OF prospect getting close. Do resign Cabrera, though..
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 If he's truly ready a Gose/Pompey platoon would be cool. Platoon? Pompey is a switch hitter, no need.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Pompey can be our LF If AA doesn't re-sign Melky, then who knows. I'd rather sign Melky and start Pompey in CF. Gose would be a perfect fourth OF off the bench, and a late defensive replacement for Melky or to spell Bautista or Melky from time to time. As far as a late inning defensive replacement goes, Gose would probably go to CF and Pompey move to LF.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 AA ain't gonna sign Melky. No money
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 AA ain't gonna sign Melky. No money He can, no Rasmus and cheap young SP. Maybe no Lind either.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 lol @ people asking why he's being moved through the system so quickly. This is nothing more than the actions of a desperate man on the brink of being fired. Desperate people do not act rationally. Pompey is probably on our OD roster next year.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Platoon? Pompey is a switch hitter, no need. I know he is, but I doubt he gets the starting gig right from the start of the season, and I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to award him that so early. Unless we resign Rasmus or get another CF acquisition, I think Gose gets the starting job in CF with Pompey getting starts in CF against lefties and moving around the OF on other days.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Pompey was actually doing quite well in AA. Not every move is a panic move out of desperation.
43211234 Verified Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 At least september might be somewhat watchable with Pompey, Norris, Sanchez and Stroman all with the big league club.

If Pompey continues to hit in AAA and possibly here in September and continues to impress in the spring, he'd be the obvious choice to start in CF. Gose is nowhere near as offensively talented as Pompey. It's a tough call nonetheless.

Pompey would be the ideal insurance policy in AAA to start the season. If AA has any intentions of this team actually contending next season he needs to do a better job of building depth in AAA with legitimate talent. Melky/Gose/Bautista would be my ideal OF, although truth be told I wouldn't be opposed to an OF of Reimold/Gose/Bautista if AA actually gets a legitimate 4th OF who can platoon with Gose.

Don't forget, AA is probably somewhat desperate. What better way to impress the brass by starting the Pompey campaign early? Local kid is now the starting CF of your Toronto Blue Jays. PR dream and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Ownership will be very impressed.

Please god not Reimold. Dude is pretty much replacement-level.
