The Os were caught in that we like this guy but due to injuries and such we need to get him to the minors since we don't have room but it failed and we got him. Mwhaha
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 What did Zaun say? Zaun said Bautista was right to speak up (he's wrong) and that the Jays should have made a move for a front line starter, mentioning Lester and Price (he's wrong again)
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 What did Zaun say? Zaun really wanted them to make a deal and pick someone up even if it was like the O's did picking up a RP who could get big bats out and change the course of a game late. He said along the lines of the Jays just didn't have the prospects to pull something off. I think earlier someone said he said in an earlier broadcast that they should have dangled Storman and Sanchez for Price. Not sure if he did or someone said it. He also said that the Jays don't match up or aren't even close pitching wise when you meet up with the Tigers, As, Angels later in the season and in the playoffs since the Jays lack a true #1 and they have a lot of pitchers who are mid to top rotations guys and went out and brought in guys knowing they needed the help matching up in the post season. So it would be very hard for the Jays to advance since even if the Jays give up 2-4 runs those pitchers likely won't give up much. Pitcher duels and the Jays will likely fail.

Especially Detroit.. Davis and Carrera in CF sounds awful. And how will Oakland play without Cespedes? Usually without him, Oakland suffered on the field.

No way those teams trade within the division unless the Jays overpaid and that would have been a disaster.

There's no guarantee Price even gets Detroit to the postseason..Kansas City is only 4 down of the Tigers and surging.

That's why I don't mind the Jays not making a move like that. They (As, Tigers) kind of taken away from one spot to add to another and hope that the pitching is enough. The Jays might be able to take advantage since we still have a potent offense and even though our pitching might not be as good, our offense late in games might be able to push a run in where theirs might not plus As lost a nice defensive piece.

JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Picked up a game on the Os! Angels just beat them! 1.5 games out!
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 And we cannot afford a repeat of the Loiaza/Young fiasco. Oh yeah! One thing if you flip a decent prospect, get back a top of the line guy who you have for a few years. But flip a young prospect and getting a Loiazia type is a black eye.
comeon sense Verified Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Jays are nice ,and under the radar for not doing anything big. Hope they continue to go small(perceived small).

Fly under the radar and surprise some people. Maybe another sly pick up in August that might help out. At least they came out tonight, disappointed that a trade wasn't made to help out, but didn't give up, made up for the mistakes and nailed the win and picked up a game.

Still cant believe they got rid of a guy like Cespedes. He loves playing for them in Oak.A,s may suffer offensively for this move.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Reimold might be our own JD Martinez.

comeon sense Verified Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Thank god the O's lost... they were overdue. They are overdue for a lot more. We went to 14 games above .500 before our fall.

When I heard A's were in on Lester, Cespedes was the first guy I thought of.... was gonna post it.... damn Beane can't afford Cespedes long term and Lester will be gone in 2 months.... but he will use the money freed up to reload He was dumn to trade Russell tho, that one is going to hurt
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Pretty hilarious how Russell was the best prospect traded this deadline (and no one else came close) and that it came with the 3rd best pitcher on the market. The Rays declined getting Russell and they received less in return.

That caught me off guard especially since he meant a lot to them. The only thing I could think of is they felt he's walking to FA after next year, or something internal went on and he became expendable. That or they really thought they are this close they might as well beat the Tigers in pitching and made the sacrifice. I can see them suffering some offensively and defensively. Might also be a financial thing balancing Lester's contract verses what they had. Maybe?

To be honest Wil Myers looks like he won't be anything special IMO, so it's hard to love/hate what prospects these guys acquire.

He is just hurt right now.
Spoonovic Verified Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 So whos the 6th starting pitcher on the depth chart right now (not counting Morrow)? I doubt we would stretch out Redmond due to his value in the bullpen.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 The jays have the best offense in the league once EE, Lind and Lawrie get back. Reimold and Valencia give them added options for lefty pitching. This will carry them into the playoffs. We might not stack up against the obvious pitching strength of other teams, but man it will be fun being in the post season.

Caper Verified Member Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 mildly, yes Anyone think there should be concern with Janssen? SwStr% down as are Ks, velocity way down It's still going to take a week or two (or more) for him to get over that flu. That can zap a guy for months.
