Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I'm happy we squeezed in our sweep before these trades
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Holy f***, the Sox just raped in both trades. Redsox will go on to sign Shields and Lester this offseason and end up on top of the ALE again next year...
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 He's had a solid last 3 years, I wouldn't put it against him to go back to normal in Fenway Every player gets the Fenway boost. I'm tired of Boston supposedly winning every trade in which they acquire a hitter because the hitter will thrive in Fenway. That's not how it works.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 I'm fine with this for St. Louis. Lackey's going to make the minimum next year! That's extremely valuable. And I don't think Allen Craig is very good. Lackey has threatened to retire if he's forced to play for only 500,000
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I don't believe Craig is healthy and Ortiz clogging the dh isn't good.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 The thing with Craig (afaik) is that he's not exactly a pull hitter. Maybe he'll change his approach and it'll go either way
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Holy f***, the Sox just raped in both trades. Against 2 teams that don't usually get burned.

And I don't think Allen Craig is very good. How is Craig not very good? He's got a career 123 wRC+, even with this abortion of a season. That's better than Cespedes and Jay Bruce and pretty similar to your boy Kemp.

It's just that they're not losing. They're trading pitchers that won't help them this year. One is in his last year and even said he'd like to return, and the other one you never know what you'll get from year to year. They sign a couple pitchers this offseason they'll be right back in it again next year.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 How do you feel about a potential Colon trade? I'd love to see that fat age defying bastard in a Jays uni!

That's better than Cespedes and Jay Bruce and pretty similar to your boy Kemp. I still believe in Craig's bat to a certain extent, but I don't think he's more than a 2-win player going forward. An okay player but not someone the Cardinals will regret dealing. It's not that the Redsox are winning. It's just that they're not losing. They're trading pitchers that won't help them this year. If the Cardinals are comfortable sending away Craig, even at that cheap contract, I think they have serious concerns about his health going forward or his ability to go back to his career norms.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Every player gets the Fenway boost. I'm tired of Boston supposedly winning every trade in which they acquire a hitter because the hitter will thrive in Fenway. That's not how it works. Conversely, the pitchers they traded get a boost from their new environments, bandbox for Lester, NL park for Lackey. So at the very least, that boost should be factored as well. These trades will work for both sides. Boston hasn't raped anyone.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I just don't get this one from the Cards point of view. Just doesn't seem like the Cardinals way. And if Lackey backs out next year, then it's a giant ball of hot mess.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Lackey won't pitch for the minimum. He'll retire before he does that. Do you know how he ended up in this weird contract situation in the first place? It's not like he's a young player.

I hope he were being sarcastic when you wrote "the Cardinal way", like every other team they're looking for value and they got it

It's not like he's a young player. $500k Vesting Option. Club option at minimum for 2015 if Lackey misses significant time 2010-2014 due to an elbow injury.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Lackey won't pitch for the minimum. He'll retire before he does that. Until he gets True Cardinaled and finds himself willing to pay for the privilege to be a True Cardinal. #True #Cardinal #TrueCardinal

That's better than Cespedes and Jay Bruce and pretty similar to your boy Kemp. Chalk this up as a win for the Sox of course, the Cards open up a spot for Matt Adams to play full time at first and a definitive RF spot for Taveras, so I can see the Cards' reasoning for making this trade. Craig's a tough one for me, a good deal of his home runs are of the centre field and oppo shot variety, not sure how much Fenway will help him, but the upside and control here are very real. Kelly's just garbage.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Do you know how he ended up in this weird contract situation in the first place? It's not like he's a young player. There was a clause in his contract that if he missed a year with TJS, an extra one would be tacked on for the minimum. He sat out 2012 and the clause was activated. He doesn't have a case to complain about here.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I hope he were being sarcastic when you wrote "the Cardinal way", like every other team they're looking for value and they got it Giving up what they did for couple months of Lackey and an uncertainty over control for next season is in no means a value trade. Not even close.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Cespedes + Craig = f*** us Chalk this up as a win for the Sox of course, the Cards open up a spot for Matt Adams to play full time at first and a definitive RF spot for Taveras, so I can see the Cards' reasoning for making this trade. Not even close. They get an extra year of minimum salary, how is not that not great value. Its guaranteed
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 They get an extra year of minimum salary, how is not that not great value. Its guaranteed No, it's not. When you have a complete douchebag like Lackey, it's not even close to guaranteed. He retires and they're screwed.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Cards also getting Corey Littrell. So it's alright if Lackey retires, they'll just turn this kid into a #2 or something.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Nah, Craig isn't very good. Even though his career wRC+ is better than Justin Upton, Alex Gordon, and Cargo. http://33.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lzlsokOh9y1qjaj9lo4_250.gif
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Seems like Cherrington is the Anti-thopoulos, off first impressions we thought we was a dumnass GM when he was trading for guys like Hanrahan and Bailey, and he's been pretty frugal since then. The greek god of gyros has been the exact opposite.
