They already had Sam Fuld. Then they lost him on waivers.

So essentially, they just gave up Milone on waivers. Granted, he's put up 2.3 fWAR, but if he already had Fuld, this is pretty bad.

#Twins claim Sam Fuld on waivers in April and flip him for a pitcher with a career 3.84 ERA (468.2 IP) a few months later. Nice move.

One of the worst trades I have ever seen.

Lol how good do you think Milone actually is?

Hes a 5th starter but its Sam f***ing Fuld. Hes a controllable lefty who you could get value out of. Terrible trade.

He has a 116 xFIP. That's Liam Hendriks s***. Fuld is markedly better.

How is this a bad trade? If you're gonna knock on the A's for anything, it should be letting Fuld go before he put up 2 wins in the first place. He's been decent against lefties and he's had excellent defense.

Milone requested a trade and wanted out of Oakland. That lowers his value a little too.

Milone...... velocity down

xFIP/FIP sub-par

Strike-outs down

I get the impression A's know what they're doing

Ok, I get where you are coming from although I'm not sure how I really feel about this trade. I probably wouldn't agree that it is "pretty bad" though. But ten minutes later in this same thread:

You've got me confused.

Yeah, I realized that my viewpoint would be confusing so I'll just state it outright.

If you look at the trade in a vacuum, it's a good trade. Fuld > Milone.

If you consider the context, Beane should have identified what he had in Fuld before losing him so that he could have dealt Milone for something as well as already had Fuld.

Hopefully that's less confusing.

Got it.

That's kind of how I feel too although I think Milone would have more perceived value around the league (a lot of GM's would see him as a solid #4 wouldn't they?) and could net you more than Fuld, who I think is a fine player, albeit one who has had his struggles in the past.

Exactly. I absolutely could have seen a Franklin/Milone swap.
