glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Trade Reyes somewhere (Tigers?) and trade for Alexander Guerrero from the Dodgers. Put Guerrero at 2B and Kawasaki at short (platoon him with Tolleson). Saves money and maybe adds some upside if Guerrero's bat can play in the Majors.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Author Posted July 20, 2014 Barry Davis AA says Lind, Lawrie and EE are all progressing well. Says there's a chance all 3 could be on rehab assignments next weekend.

In terms if Major league performance there is no upside whatsoever. Tolleson is a worse SS than Reyes and Guerrero will probably not hit even close to Reyes.

Tolleson is a worse SS than Reyes and Guerrero will probably not hit even close to Reyes. I don't know, I think Guerrero may be able to hit in the Majors. As well as Reyes depends on which Reyes were talking about. Reyes in his prime? Absolutely not. Reyes from 2014-18? That's far more realistic. EIther way, just trying to think of ideas to get rid of Reyes while getting some middle infield talent back. I think Reyes is well on his way to becoming Vernon Wells for us, if he isn't already. The sooner they dump him, the better.
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 I agree Reyes has a small anchor around his neck now. Will keep getting heavier over the next couple years. His D is not strong now. Will keep getting worse. His approach at bat is selfish Try to move now, but I don't think there are any takers out there

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 I wouldn't mind seeing us pick up Denorfia. Should be extremely cheap trade candidate, gives us a right handed outfield bat who can play all three positions.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Author Posted July 20, 2014 The Blue Jays are interested in outfielder Chris Denorfia of the Padres, Morosi tweets. Denorfia has not hit well this season (.243/.293/.327 in 244 plate appearances), but he’s hit very well against lefties in his career. Like Padres teammate Chase Headley (in whom the Blue Jays have also shown interest), Denorfia is a free agent after the season. For the last 3 years

"...Anthopoulos says he has the freedom to make the necessary moves to keep the Blue Jays in the playoff hunt. “I don’t have any doubt that we have the ability to add players. How that gets done, we can always be creative, but I’ll say this: we have a very healthy payroll, we have a very strong payroll.“ wtf is that? don't doubt he can add players? the creative part likely implies he can't add payroll... "...I don’t see any reason we’re not going to be able to add players at the trade deadline if we can line up in terms of talent.“ not sure why he needed to answer that way...either it's a yes he can add to payroll or not... of course his caveat - jays have always kept payroll projections in house...

Frankly, I think the fact that he's being coy about it is better... Other GMs don't need to know that he's got a blank cheque... Being unclear about this will definitely not hurt his bargaining position.

Maybe it's at an internal cap, maybe he could spend another $200M (likely somewhere in the middle, and probably far, far closer to the first extreme...) but the fact that he's playing it close to the vest isn't hurting anything (except the feelings of fans who think he should tell them everything he's doing at all times...)
