Notes:

MLB:

  • No Important Notes Today.

Jays:

  • Stroman is 3-2 with a 2.08 ERA in seven starts after another solid outing Friday, when he allowed three hits and struck out seven in seven innings of Toronto's 1-0, 12-inning loss at Oakland.
  • Toronto also snapped a seven-game road losing streak while ending a five-game run for Los Angeles. Reyes's hitting .344 over his last 14, raising his average 20 points to .267 in the process.
  • The Blue Jays snapped a seven-game road losing streak on Tuesday and are now 23-23 away from home this season.

Angels:

  • Wilson has allowed 16 runs in 13 innings over his last three starts after giving up six runs in 4 1-3 of Los Angeles' 7-6 win over Houston on Friday. Wilson went 6-3 with a 3.00 ERA in his first 10 starts, but he's dropped off dramatically while posting a 6.18 ERA in eight outings since.
  • After the Angels made a 53-year climb back to the break-even mark, their stay lasted one day. Before Tuesday's loss, the Angels had a franchise record of 4272-4272-3, the first time they had reached .500 since opening its debut campaign 1-1 in 1961.
  • The Angels saw their home winning streak come to an end at 11, one short of the franchise record set in 1967. Albert Pujols went hitless after going 10 for 17 with two homers and eight RBIs over his previous four.

Can't believe AA still hasn't made a move to get a new bat to boost the lineup. I'm thinking he'll wait until after the AS break. Oh well.

Go Jays!!

So

Lind is a career 1.076 OPS hitter against CJ Wilson in 24 plate appearances

And Danier Navarro is DHing

Is Lind Hurt again

Gibbons managing to the platoon split not the small sample size. Nothing to see here.

21 plate appearances vs. 1 pitcher is pretty significant bud. Thats 3 to 4 years of baseball.

You know hitters hitting well against certain pitchers is not random

Some guys just see some pitchers better, they pickup the ball earlier.

Have you ever played baseball?

Yes I have played baseball and you knew full well that Lind wasn't hurt again. You were just baiting like you didn't know full well why he was benched.

I know it's still early, and he got shelled in NY a bit back, but Stroman is inching a bit closer to 'guaranteed quality' start mentality.

yeah, don't see why Mastro is in there at all vs Rasmus...Rasmus is sucking but this to me is about sending a message to Rasmus...

Is that a record for most unintentional board memes in one post?

One of the worst posts ever.

I remember now why I don't ever come into GDTs.

Lind would be in my lineup today. "Small" sample rakage of a pitcher (if consistent over the sample) should always win out over general platoon splits, when dealing with lesser overall batters.

There were always certain better pitchers which I just owned. And not because of fluke occurrences. You just saw the ball better and had a better feel for their arsenal and location.

It's a thing.

I know the feeling you've described. The feeling of seeing a pitcher better. I don't belive it is predictive of future results no matter how convincing it feels. Over time statistics bare this out. Individual batter pitcher matchups have basically no predictive value. You just have to silence the subjective experience no matter how counter-intuitive that is.

Kratz just gave an interview mentioning the tendency for malcontentment among AAA players. I wonder if he had anyone specific in mind in Buffalo.

If I'd hazard a guess, I'd say Gose although I can certainly see Romero and maybe even Dan Johnson having a gripe. The average professional athletes is an entitled jerk so take your pick really.

While they aired that interview, they showed shots of Delabar/Gose and Pillar, lol.

Oh Pillar, that's another good one and Delabar did seem to act strange around the demotion. Don't get me wrong, AAA has got to suck major ass compared to MLB but what exactly have any of these guys done to earn "never demote" status? Verry little IMO.

At this point I don't want to miss a single Stroman start, glad it's an afternoon game and not a midnight burner.

Statistics do not prove out your point. Extreme pitcher v. hitter performance variances persist, even over larger samples. Not always, of course, but they do. The only thing of merit that can be said is that, based on the inevitable large discrepancy between total PAs and specific v. any particular pitcher PAs (and other largely immeasurable "noise"), that the phenomenon I'm describing can't be be statistically proven (and with that statement, I agree). But that's a far cry from your assertion, which is incorrect.

Well maybe I'm not expressing myself well.... To put it differently, it "might" be a thing in a particular case but you'll get nowhere managing to everything that "might" be a thing. You're better off managing to the bigger sample barring something circumstantial like an injury.

Such a sunny way to frame that. Might not be a thing though. If he knew he was likely to come back almost immediately as a DL replacement, it makes perfect sense.

Posted
Ah that makes more sense. Did not realize that was "allowed"

Wasn't there another incident with Delabar like an angry quote to the media or something like that?
